Ford Walks Back Support For Inclusivity & LGBTQ Pride

Ford Motor Company is the latest major business to join others (like Harley-Davidson, Lowe’s and John Deere) in walking back its policies on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) including LGBTQ support. The company previously decided to stop taking part in external corporate culture surveys such as those administered by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). But a memo from Ford’s CEO Jim Farley, reveals that Ford will be extending the move to DEI.

Robby Starbuck, a conservative activist who has been leading a social media campaign against companies with DEI policies as well as corporate participation in LGBTQ events, shared the memo with USA Today. HRC president Kelley Robinson denounced the move, saying, “Today, Ford Motor Company abandoned its commitment to hundreds of thousands of employees by cowering to internet troll Robby Starbuck, and signaling that inclusion and other core values are no longer a priority in the workplace.” “By failing to support women leaders, employees of color, and LGBTQ+ employees, Ford Motor Company is abandoning its financial duty to recruit and keep top talent from across the full talent pool,” she added. A recent study from the Global Black Economic Forum and the Korn Ferry Institute found that building diverse teams and inclusive workplaces boosts innovation and other business goals.
