In a high-energy event at Temple University in Philadelphia, Vice President Kamala Harris introduced her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, launching their campaign with a packed rally on Tuesday.

What we’ve learned about Tim Walz: • Walz serves as the current Governor of Minnesota after winning reelection in 2022. • At age 17, Walz enlisted in the Army National Guard (ARNG) and began his military career where he served in the U.S. Army until 2005. • He’s the highest ranking retired enlisted soldier ever to serve in Congress • As governor, Walz banned conversion therapy in the state, turned Minnesota into a refuge for transgender youth seeking gender-affirming care, and made it illegal for state libraries to ban LGBTQ+ books. • As a high school football coach, he became the school advisor for a new Gay/Straight student alliance club. Students voted him the school’s “Most Inspiring” faculty member. “Tim Walz was the kind of teacher and mentor that every child in America dreams of having and that every kid deserves—the kind of coach who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream big,” Harris added. “That’s the kind of vice president he will be. That’s the kind of vice president America deserves.”
