Kansas City Chiefs place kicker Harrison Butker is catching flack for a graduation speech he gave over the weekend in which he called LGBTQ Pride month “sinful” and urged female students to consider the only vocation that will make them most happy: homemaker. Delivering the commencement address at Catholic Benedictine College in Kansas, the 28-year-old threw shade on LGBTQ Pride month, what he called dangerous gender ideologies, and President Joe Biden’s stance on abortion. Butker suggested students at the liberal arts college should have “true God-centered pride, not the deadly sins sort of Pride that has an entire month dedicated to it.” https://twitter.com/outsports/status/1790177252489257025 After attacking “dangerous gender ideologies” in his speech — an obvious slap at the transgender community — he spoke to the women in the audience, telling them that instead of careers and promotions, they should look to another “vocation:” homemaker.
“I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and a mother. I’m on this stage and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation.”
“I’m beyond blessed with the many talents god has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
