New Music: Brandon Anderson “Hungover In A Hotel Room”

Out recording artist Brandon Anderson drops his new song/music video, “Hungover in a Hotel Room,” about waking up in a strange place and the disorientation that comes with it. For a moment, you are lost. Anderson says he came up with the song’s concept after traveling a lot for work and staying in random hotels across the country: “When I’d wake up, my mind would wonder as I tried to orient myself. Nothing would make sense for a moment, and random thoughts and images would flood my head.”

“I realized that feeling was a lot like what many of us are feeling as we look at the world,” he adds. “We have endless videos and images of events happening all across the world, bombarding us through TV and social media.” Anderson says he wrote the song to “capture that disorientation and how, with social media, everything is always in the room with us, even when we’re alone, hungover in a hotel room.”

Shed our souls to keep them talking Doesn’t matter if they’re mocking If they’re buying what we’re hawking Opportunity must be knocking Who is knocking? But maybe I’m just… Hungover in a Hotel Room

Anderson found that when music or art actually explores topics in their complexities – instead of black-and-white hot takes – audiences don’t really engage. “I had been writing very thoughtful political albums and songs for years and never got much traction, but my last album, where I took my shirt off, got more attention than all of them combined. So this video is a bit of a play on that disconnect as well.” I last covered Anderson when he released his 2022 album, Frame.
