Just two days after more than 100 Palestinians died in a chaotic scene attempting to pull food off an aid convoy in Gaza City, U.S. military planes have dropped food attached to pallets over Gaza. A Defense Department spokesman says there will be additional airdrops in the coming days. https://twitter.com/POTUS/status/1763996020562624857 From CNN:
The United States and Jordan air-dropped humanitarian aid into Gaza, US Central Command said Saturday, one day after President Joe Biden asserted the US would pull out “every stop” to get more aid into the besieged coastal enclave.
The combined operation by the US Air Force and the Royal Jordanian Air Force saw US C-130 aircraft dropping 38,000 meals along the Gaza coastline, CENTCOM said in a statement.
There were 66 total bundles dropped – 22 from each of three aircraft, a US official said. There was no water or medical supplies in the bundles.
According to the Associated Press, Israeli troops fired on a crowd of Palestinians racing to pull food off an aid convoy in Gaza City on Thursday, resulting in more than 100 dead. Israel countered those reports saying many of the dead were trampled in a wild stampede for the food aid and that its troops fired feeling endangered by the crowd. Since the war began on October 7, Israel has prohibited food, water, medicine and other supplies from entering Gaza, except for rare trucks of aid allowed in from Egypt at the Rafah crossing and Israel’s Kerem Shalom crossing. https://twitter.com/cwebbonline/status/1763951148892110866
