Documents released by Democrats in the House of Representatives show Donald Trump’s businesses received at least $7.8 million from 20 foreign governments during his time in the White House. The largest amount by far – $5.5 million – came from China, which Trump has been highly critical of. https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1742926715356364875 From the New York Times:
The Constitution prohibits federal officeholders from accepting money, payments or gifts “of any kind whatever” from foreign governments and monarchs unless they obtain “the consent of the Congress” to do so.
The report notes that Mr. Trump never went to Congress to seek consent.
House Democrats highlighted the transactions on Thursday as a counterweight to Republicans’ impeachment inquiry into Mr. Biden, which has sought to tie him to international business deals by his son Hunter Biden before his father became president in a bid to prove corruption or influence peddling.
They have so far failed to show that President Biden was enriched in any way by any of those transactions.
Unlike House Republicans, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee reportedly have more than 400 pages of receipts showing payments to Trump’s businesses from foreign officials. And that’s from just two years of the Donald’s time in the White House. Here’s a link to the documents. https://youtu.be/R2-d5wmTllo?si=20BVHTXSSaswUxJ1 In that I LOVE irony, it’s worth looking back at the December 11, 2023, episode of The Sean Hannity Show where Hannity, talking about investigations into Hunter Biden, declared:
“I cannot, for the life of me, you know, imagine what the media and how the country and the left in this country would be reacting if Donald Trump and the Trump Organization or the Trump family were making tens of millions of dollars from our top geopolitical foes like China and Russia.”
Well, Sean, here we are… https://twitter.com/MattGertz/status/1742977937421279456
