It Was A Gay Ole Time At This Year’s CMAs

Out recording artists Tracy Chapman and TJ Osbourne of Brothers Osbourne scored two top honors at the 2023 Country Music Association Awards this week. TJ Osbourne, half of The Brothers Osbourne duo, shared the Vocal Duo of the Year award with his brother. This was their 6th win in the category. Back in February 2021, Osbourne was the first country music star signed to a major label to come out as gay. But being out hasn’t slowed the duo’s success in the least, as the brothers continue to score music honors in the years since. Since he came out, TJ hasn’t been shy about being gay, either. He kissed his boyfriend on stage after winning at the CMAs in 2021. https://www.instagram.com/p/CzaErV2MzH8/ Out singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman took home the Song of the Year honor with her 1988 hit, “Fast Car,” 35 years after it was released. Country singer Luke Combs covered the iconic song earlier this year and shot to the top of the charts for a second time. Chapman’s win this week made her the first Black woman to ever take home a CMA Award. Since 1989, the multi-platinum singer/songwriter has scored four Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Best Contemporary Folk Album, Best Female Pop Performance and Best Rock Song. This was Chapman’s first-ever CMA Award. https://www.instagram.com/p/CzaBp7HMX36/   In addition to Chapman winning the CMA Award for Song of the Year for “Fast Car,” Combs took home the trophy for Single of the Year for his cover of the song. A fan created this mashup of both Chapman and Combs singing the acclaimed song. https://youtu.be/ln8BPpbP59A?si=9UZ9_HanK8z04qxn
