‘5 Republicans’ Currently Trending On X

The term ‘5 Republicans’ is currently trending on X (formerly Twitter) as more and more folks note that the lack of leadership in the House of Representatives could be solved if just 5 GOPers worked with the Democrats. While House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has won the nomination for Speaker among the Republicans, he only has about 113 votes. It takes 217 to become Speaker. His GOP colleague Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) jumped into the game but only got 99 votes from his fellow Republicans.

Contrast that with all 212 Democrats solidly behind House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. If just five moderate Republicans vote with the Dems (or 10 Repubs abstain), we’d have the problem solved and the House could get back to work. https://twitter.com/santiagomayer_/status/1712470302066929924 https://twitter.com/djrothkopf/status/1712156103830552633 https://twitter.com/claudiajordan/status/1712573754587365858 https://twitter.com/Grace4NY/status/1712286309086028029
