The Disney adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s musical, Into the Woods, directed by Rob Marshall (and produced by his husband), received a nomination for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, along with actor noms for two of its female cast faves, Emily Blunt and a relative unknown named Meryl Streep. The excellent indie film Pride is up against bigger films in the same Best Motion Picture category.

HBO’s TV movie The Normal Heart, adapted with Larry Kramer by Ryan Murphy, received two noms, one for Best TV Movie or Mini-series and Matt Bomer for Best Supporting Actor. Alan Cumming is up in the same category for his work on The Good Wife. Julianne Moore received a nomination for her work in Still Alice, from the gay directors (and real life couple) Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland. Amazon received its first two Golden Globe nominations with its original series Transparent, including Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Jeffrey Tambor. And The Imitation Game, about gay WWII hero Alan Turing, received four nominations: for its stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley, as well as Best Motion Picture, Drama and Best Original Score.
