Between Two Ferns With Zach Galifianakis: Hillary Clinton

As President Obama did 2014 in a pitch to get younger voters’ support for Obamacare, Hillary Clinton stops by for an interview with Zach Galifianakis’ bewildering talk show, Between Two Ferns.

With an often deadpan stare, Hillary shows considerable control (which she’ll need in the upcoming debates with the Orange one) while taking in Zach’s off-kilter hosting style.

The Verge weighs in:

At the start of the interview, Galifianakis asks her if she’s excited to be the first “girl president,” then follows up by reminding her that “for a younger, younger generation you will also become their first white president, so that’s pretty cool, too.” Later he asks, “When you see how well it works for Donald Trump, do you ever think ‘Oh, I should be more racist?’” Clinton delivers a solid performance as “person who is annoyed with Zach Galifianakis.”

Web Series: Zach Galifianakis Interviews Brad Pitt on “Between Two Ferns”

10 million views in 3 days.

When we last saw Zach Galifinakis in his Emmy-winning web series, “Between Two Ferns,” he had President Obama in the hot seat.

Next up is Brad Pitt, who imagines he’s there to talk about his new movie Fury, which Zach refers to as “furry.”

And so it goes from there. The uncomfortability is fab.

Zach Galifianakis interviews President Obama on “Between Two Ferns”

President Obama sat down with Zach Galifianakis on his Funny or Die web interview series “Between Two Ferns” to discuss signing up for the Affordable Care Act.

“Between Two Ferns” is one of the funniest and most successful ongoing video series on the internet. Each video averages approximately 6 million views.

In the video, Zach takes the interview a tad off-track as he brings up questions regarding sending Ambassador Rodman to North Korea,  Obama erecting his presidential library in Kenya, letting his son play football, who he rooted for in the Sochi Winter Olympics, and whether he’ll outlaw same-sex divorce. That was just the beginning of the barbs traded between Obama and Galifianakis.

Best line by President Obama: “I’ve seen episodes of this show before and some of those episodes have been a little bit better than this. For example, that one with Bradley Cooper? That was a great show.”

UPDATE: Within hours, the video has garnered over 5.4 million views and is reportedly the biggest driver of traffic to HealthCare.gov.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the White House wasn’t concerned that the comedy routine might have undermined the dignity of the office of the president.

“We obviously assess opportunities that we have and, you know, look at whether or not they’re going to be successful and wise,” Carney said. “And I think we made the right call here.”

Carney also said that Funny or Die, the website that hosts the faux-public access show “Between Two Ferns” featuring the “Hangover” star, was the No. 1 referral source to HealthCare.gov on Tuesday morning.

“The video itself was causing the action that we’d hoped it would cause, which is getting folks to go to HealthCare.gov and look at the options available to them and hopefully enroll,” Carney said.
