It’s Official – NBC Announces The Return Of “Will & Grace”

Former cast member Leslie Jordan may have jumped the gun recently when he told a San Diego radio station that hit TV show Will & Grace was “definitely” coming back, but now it’s official.

Via Deadline:

The Emmy-winning Will & Grace is returning to NBC. After months of complex and difficult negotiations, the network has closed a deal for a new 10-episode limited installment of the hit series, to air during the 2017-18 season. NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke made the announcement at the top of NBC’s TCA presentation.

The new, ninth season of Will & Grace stems from the surprise election-themed reunion mini-episode released on Sept. 26. Done without NBC’s involvement, it immediately triggered talk of a possible real reunion.

Slowly but surely, producing studio Universal TV was able to secure stars Eric McCormack, Debra Messing, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes as well as creators/executive producers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan. Veteran director James Burrows, who directed every episode of the show during its initial eight-year run, is on board to direct and executive produce.

WILL & GRACE Stars Tease Possible Reunion Show

Debra Messing tweeted this video teaser this morning that seems to indicate there’s a Will & Grace reunion happening soon.

The title cards for the video read, ““A band of heroes WILL assemble to protect the world from aliens & destruction. Only an act of GRACE can save them in their battle for what is right. Only they can bring America back from the brink.”

See what they did there?

We shall see if the reunion ends up being a special or more. The fans of the show recently celebrated the series’ 18th anniversary of it’s launch.

Sean Hayes: “I Regret Not Coming Out Sooner”

Former Will & Grace star Sean Hayes tells Playbill he wishes he had come out publicly during the run of the hit TV series.

“I got Will & Grace, and I thought, ‘Oh, this is different. I don’t know how to handle this. I’m not bright enough, I’m not quick enough, I don’t have the DNA to be a spokesperson for any kind of group of people.’”

“I had personal issues inside of myself that I regret.

“I regret not coming out sooner and helping more people, and I regret not coming out during the show.

“Everybody in the gay community knew I was gay, but it was this fight I had with the press because they want you to come out on their terms, and other gay people want you to come out on their terms, and if you don’t come out on their terms you’re just an asshole, and you’re wrong. Well, each individual human being has a lot of stuff that nobody knows about.

“Nobody knows what anybody else is going through at any point in their lives.”

Hayes eventually came out in 2010, four years after the end of Will & Grace.

He married his partner, Scott Icenogle, in 2014, and is currently starring on Broadway in the play An Act of God.
