“So You Think You Can Dance” Cast Kills It With RuPaul’s “Call Me Mother”

It’s been a busy morning, and I’ve been seeing lots of reports about the So You Think You Can Dance All-Stars and Top 8 dancers killing it last night with a piece by choreographer Mark Kanemura set to “Call Me Mother” from RuPaul’s recent album, American.

And everyone was right – pretty epic.

No politics here, just way tight dancing and ography. #slayy

Watch below.

Daily Dance: JT & Robert “Mr. Bojancgles” SYTYCD

With choreography by Al Blackstone, JT and Robert dance a magical “Mr. Bojangles” on Season 13 of So You Think You Can Dance.

Seriously, look at JT’s technique – the line of his leg, the stretch of his arms in a jump, his musicality – he’s really quite awesome. He’s going to be dangerous on the dance floor when he grows up 🙂

So You Think You Can Dance – Final 4 “Wind Beneath My Wings”

Well, I really like this.

This dance, choreographed by Travis Wall, opened last night’s show and is apparently one of the few times, SYTYCD has utilized same-sex partners actually dancing with each other in a some-what romantic scenario.

Clearly the theme of the dance references LGBT equality and same-sex marriage. On top of the excellent execution by the final four dancers (Valerie Rockey, Ricky Ubeda, Jessica Richens, and Zack Everhart Jr.), the choreography is creative, current and thoughtful.

By the way, the recording of “Wind Beneath My Wings” was by Canadian twins RyanDan. You can find the recording here on iTunes.

Dance: Ricky Ubeda “Vitality”

Ricky Ubeda of So You Think You Can Dance
Ricky Ubeda

Seventeen years old.  This is someone born to dance.

Besides the obvious flexibility and extension, note his technique, control, feel for dynamics, and connection to what he’s expressing – all right there.  Artistry.

He should have a terrific career.

So You Think You Can Dance contestant Tucker Knox comes out (?) on Instagram

Though he was not out while he was on the show, Tucker Knox, a contestant on Season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance posted the above photo to his Instagram account yesterday:

“I’m gonna start a “fall back Friday” mainly cuz I miss the hubs and that beach!”

Knox was eliminated on August 20.

A week before his elimination he danced in the first same-sex pairing of the season with Robert Roldan.  Beautiful choreography by Travis Wall.  Watch below:
