Ryan Idol, 80s gay porn actor, sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted murder

Gay porn actor Ryan Idol (real name Marc Anthony Donais) was convicted in September 2011 of attempted murder after beating his girlfriend over the head with a toilet tank lid.

He has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

According to the victim’s testimony at trial, Donais entered the woman’s apartment the night of Sept. 5, 2009, and told her, “I came over here to kill you.” The two had been involved in a relationship, but the woman — whose name is being withheld because she is a domestic violence victim — said she cut it off when she caught him having sex with his male lover.

The woman said Donais stormed into her bathroom while she was taking a bath of her 48th Street residence and began to beat her with the porcelain lid until “I felt blood gushing down my shoulders.”

Gay porn star Ryan Idol, aka Marc Anthony Donais, was convicted of attempted murder on Tuesday by a Sacramento Superior Court jury.

Donais, 45, was accused of using a toilet tank lid to batter his ex-girlfriend in the head in an attack at the woman’s home on Sept. 5, 2009. The adult film star, who identifies as bisexual although he performed in gay porn, and the woman had broken up before the incident.

During the trial, Donais testified that he thought his ex-girlfriend had a knife when they were in the bathroom, where she was taking a bath. He said he hit the woman in self-defense. Jurors, however, didn’t buy his argument.

Donais got his first big break when he appeared as the “Man of the Month” centerfold in the Playgirl issues of February 1989. He was considered a major gay porn star from 1990 to 1996, when he retired. His X-rated film titles include “Idol Eyes,” “Idol Worship,” “Idle Thoughts,” “Idol Country” and “Idol In The Sky.”

In 1999, Idol starred in the play Making Porn. Idol next played “Bill Tom” in the gay love story Scent of Rain, written by Mark Dunn, for which he was lauded for “continu[ing] to establish himself as a capable actor”. Idol made his Broadway debut when he played the “Crisco Patron” in the Roundabout Theater Company’s 2007 revival of Terrence McNally’s The Ritz.
