Tonight: Vanessa Williams & Renee Fleming Live From The Kennedy Center

On Saturday at 8 p.m. ET, two Tony nominated divas — opera legend Renée Fleming and pop star Vanessa Williams — team up for a live concert from the Kennedy Center’s storied Opera House. It’s the first in-person event at the D.C. institution since March, and only a smattering of invited folks will be sitting in the seats. But you can watch from home as these vocalists croon an eclectic selection of tunes, including “Children Will Listen,” “Stormy Weather” and a brand-new number by Andrew Lippa.

Isolation and harmony, fragility and resilience, oppression and hope.

These are the emotions of our time, and the subjects explored in A Time to Sing — a very personal collection of songs to be performed by two of America’s most celebrated vocalists in a unique event at the Kennedy Center.

Opera star Renee Fleming to sing national anthem at Super Bowl

It’s been announced that opera star Renee Fleming will sing the national anthem before this year’s Super Bowl.

This is a departure from recent years which have focused on rock, pop and country stars singing the vocally challenging song.

Known as “The People’s Diva,” the soprano is closely identified with the New York City region, having spent years singing on such iconic stages as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Last year, she received the National Medal of Arts, the highest honor the government gives to artists.

Fleming will be the first opera star to sing the anthem at a Super Bowl.

Josh Groban and Renee Fleming – Brigadoon medley

Not for nothing, but these two can really sing.

I’ve met Josh Groban a few times over the past ten years or so as his vocal coach is one of my best friends. I really give a lot of credit to Josh and David Romano, his coach, for the voice that is Josh Groban. You don’t roll out of bed and sing at this level for years without working at it.

I’ve seen Josh many times in concert and he’s always spot on. Great vocal technique.

AND he has a fun, quirky sense of humor that is disarming and charming.
