When Anthony Weiner’s campaign implodes, it IMPLODES

In a rant rarely seen in a political circles, Anthony Weiner’s communications director Barbara Morgan went off the rails while talking to a reporter at Talking Points Memo.

Former intern for the Weiner campaign, Olivia Nuzzi, published a story on the blog NSFWCORP, which then landed her on the front cover of the Daily News.

On a call to TPM about an unrelated issue, Morgan apparently roared on and on about Nuzzi and her article:

“Fucking slutbag. Nice fucking glamour shot on the cover of the Daily News. Man, see if you ever get a job in this town again,” said Morgan.

According to Morgan, Nuzzi stopped interning for the campaign “like four weeks ago.” Nuzzi’s story on NSFWCORP described her as having spent “four weeks” as a Weiner intern. When asked whether the claims in Nuzzi’s stories were true, Morgan suggested many of them were “bullshit.”

“It’s all bullshit,” she said. “I mean, it’s such bullshit. She could fucking — fucking twat.”

According to Morgan, Nuzzi’s job performance left much to be desired.

“She sucked. She like wasn’t good at setting up events. She was clearly there because she wanted to be seen. Like it was, like, terrible and I had to like – she would like, she would just not show up for work,” said Morgan. “For the four weeks she worked there — she didn’t work weekends, so twenty days total. Of those twenty days, she missed probably five because she would just like not show up and not tell me she wasn’t going to be there. So, yeah, so there’s that.”

Morgan also expressed disbelief that Nuzzi criticized her credentials.

“And then like she had the fucking balls to like trash me in the paper. And be like, ‘His communications director was last the press secretary of the Department of Education in New Jersey,” Morgan said. “You know what? Fuck you, you little cunt. I’m not joking, I am going to sue her.”

Late last night, Morgan issued a statement to Business Insider about the screed:

“In a moment of frustration, I used inappropriate language in what I thought was an off the record conversation. It was wrong and I am very sorry, which is what I said tonight when I called and emailed Olivia to apologize,” said Morgan.

Report: Political support for marriage equality not so “career-ending”

From Third Way comes a new report today indicates that supporting marriage equality is not quite the “career-ending move” Brian Brown of the anti-gay NOM would have you believe.

Of the 196 legislators who voted for marriage equality in either New York or Washington, 191 kept their jobs.

Crunching the numbers that works out to a 97% reelection rate.

Historically, 10% of incumbents usually lose reelection, so if anything marriage equality appears to help make the case.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg to create new Independence PAC

New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg today announced the formation of a new super PAC, Independence PAC. He will support candidates from any party with the caveat that they support three issues: marriage equality, stricter gun laws and education reform.  Word is he’s prepared to spend up to $15 million between now and election day.

An anonymous Bloomberg official said, “This spending sends a clear message that the mayor intends to keep his wallet open after he leaves office to influence national policy around issues like guns, education and marriage equality.” And according to the New York Times, Bloomberg’s already supporting a number of candidates.

Among those whom Mr. Bloomberg will support are former Gov. Angus King, an independent running for the United States Senate in Maine; State Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod, who is challenging a fellow Democrat, Representative Joe Baca of California, who the mayor believes has been weak on gun-control; and Representative Bob Dold, a Republican from Illinois who has backed gun-control measures.

Bloomberg is “likely” to support the Washington and Maine gay marriage ballot battles, according to the paper.

Santorum performs for the cameras – curses out NY Times

Rick Santorum clearly knew the cameras were rolling and that this would get picked up.

His “anger” over being asked a question is laughable. He has said in many speeches that he feels Romney is the worst Repub to run against President Obama. If he means something slightly different – like “run against Obama on healthcare due to Romneycare” – then he should say exactly that.

But this is all political theatre at this point. Rick Santorum will not get the nomination, but I’m sure he’s looking for “Sarah Palin sized” fees and offers from Fox News once this is over.

Gingrich considers Sarah Palin for Vice-President, Energy Secretary

As if it matters…

“I am a great admirer of hers and she was a remarkable reform governor of Alaska, she’s somebody who I think brings a great deal to the possibility of helping in government and that would be one of the possibilities. There are also some very important Cabinet positions that she could fill very, very well. I can’t imagine anybody who would do a better job of driving us to an energy solution than Gov. Palin, for example. Tell her that she would certainly be on the list of one of the people we would consider.” – Newt Gingrich, as he follows the former half-term governor of Alaska into the shallow end of history.
