Some news items you may have missed:

• It’s a grey day here in Las Vegas, but Eliad Cohen and friends have clearly found the sun in Playa del Carmen.

• White House press secretary Sean Spicer thinks Melissa McCarthy’s impression of him this past weekend on “Saturday Night Live” was a little over the top. Missing the point there, Sparky. Satire works best when it’s “over the top.”

• According to the New York Times, President Trump often spends evenings watching cable news shows in his bathrobe, and wandering around his new abode.

• Last night’s historic overtime Super Bowl game pulled in 113.7 million viewers.

• The U.S. Supreme Court will hear transgender student Gavin Grimm’s case on March 28.

• Elton John says Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl performance was “the most spectacular performance ever seen during Super Bowl half time.” Watch the video below if you missed it!

• Sir Elton John and Paul Rudnick are working on a stage musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada.

 • North Carolina state Senate Leader says anti-LGBT “bathroom bill” HB2 isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

• Congressional Republicans will reintroduce the anti-LGBT legislation the First Amendment Defense Act. The bill, which President Trump has promised to sign into law, would allow anyone with “deeply held religious beliefs” to legally discriminate against LGBTs.

• In light of Uber’s CEO willingness to work with President Trump, and ridesharing rival Lyft’s announcement to donate $1 million to the ACLU, folks are dumping and deleting their Uber accounts in massive numbers.

• In case you haven’t been paying attention, folks in the “pro-life” movement not only want to outlaw safe abortions, they think “the pill” and IUDs should be illegal as well.

• The niece of former GOP presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, will take over the reins as Chairman of the Republican Party from outgoing Reince Priebus. Ronna Romney McDaniel takes over as Priebus is moving on to be Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff in the White House.

• Energy Secretary Rick Perry was quite contrite at his confirmation hearing today, saying he regrets his now infamous “oops” moment during the 2012 presidential campaign when he vowed to eliminate the department he’s now nominated to run.

• The latest CBS poll shows President Obama leaving office with a 62% approval rating.

• The former Apprentice contestant who accused Donald Trump of groping her is now suing him for defamation.

• North Korea may test-fire one of their intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) as early as Friday, the day Donald Trump is inaugurated, in an attempt to provoke Trump.

• The Virginia state House killed a potential “bathroom bill” similar to North Carolina’s HB2, which has had a devastating effect on the Tarheel State’s economy.

• Politico reports that the incoming Trump administration is frantically trying to place a Hispanic official in a high level position due to criticism that his cabinet is practically all white guys.

• Check out the newly released extended trailer for the upcoming Lifetime Channel’s remake of the 1988 Bette Midler classic film, Beaches, starring Idina Menzel as “C.C.” (originally played by Bette Midler) and Nia Long (The Best Man Holiday). The flick debuts January 21st.

• Eliad Cohen has the NERVE to look that good (above) the day after Christmas. #dang

• The Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C., got a brutal review as the “third worst new hotel” from one of the world’s luxury/high end travel groups. “LTI finds the décor a little garish and more quantity over quality. Service is poor on occasions and lacks confidence. The whole experience seems a little forced, and therefore this place is not for the true discerning luxury traveller.”

• Another news report exploring the many closings of gay bars across the country.

• Donald Trump will enter the White House as the least-popular incoming president in the modern era of public-opinion polling.

• The Israeli Ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer, says his country has proof the Obama Administration was involved in orchestrating the recent UN resolution on settlements. He just doesn’t want to share it now…

• President Obama believes if he had run for a third term in the White House he would have won. And I agree.

• Comedian Tom Arnold says “smart Watergate level” journalists are on top of the Trump “outtakes” video which he says shows Donald Trump saying the n-word and c-word on camera during The Apprentice.

• The special two hour Christmas episode of the acclaimed Netflix series Sense8 is now available! Go watch now! I understand the creators heard loud and clear how much we all loved the sensual spa scene in the first season’s episode 

 • The North Carolina NAACP will call for a national economic boycott after the Republican-led state legislature reneged on a deal to repeal it’s hate law, HB2.

• Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker has given her blessing for a third big screen installment of the popular HBO series.

• An appeals court has overturned former student-athlete Michael L. Johnson’s conviction for infecting a sexual partner with HIV.

• Expect Donald Trump to express his outrage over the United States abstaining from a vote on the United Nations resolution condemning Israeli settlement construction, which by the way has been the position of every president since Reagan.

• Do not miss the new film adaptation of the late August Wilson’s Pulitzer-winning play Fences, directed by and starring Denzel Washington. I hear Viola Davis’ portrayal of his steadfast wife, Rose, is practically a shoe-in for the Oscar. Washington and Davis are both nominated for Golden Globes. In wide release Christmas Day.

• Comedian Tom Arnold says he has the infamous outtakes of Donald Trump on The Apprentice using the n-word, c-word and calling his own son a “retard.”

• The Human Rights Campaign will honor super-actress and LGBT ally Meryl Streep at the 2017 Greater New York Gala.

• Family members of three men killed in the Pulse Nightclub shooting are suing Twitter, Facebook and Google for allowing ISIS to post propaganda which, according to the families, helped to radicalize the shooter, Omar Mateen.

• OMG, this painfully awkward interview with Jerry Lewis. You have to wonder, “why so mad?”

• A Louisiana judge has struck down Governor John Bel Edwards’ executive order protecting LGBTQ state workers and contractors from discrimination.

• After 8 years of forward movement for LGBT rights in the U.S., leaders of the movement are preparing to shift back to a defensive stance with the incoming Trump administration.

• Just hours after Vanity Fair gave the Trump Grill a bad review, Donald Trump tweeted an attack on the magazine and it’s editor. This is really how it’s going to be for the next four years?
