“Lost In Space” Gets Netflix Reboot

Excuse me for geeking out 🙂

Netflix has green-lit a 10-episode series order to launch a reboot of the 1960s sci-fi series, “Lost in Space.”

From Variety:

The new series will be produced by Legendary Television. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the screenwriting team behind the films “Dracula Untold” and “Last Witch Hunter,” will write the new series, with “Prison Break” veteran Zack Estrin set to serve as showrunner. The three will executive produce alongside Synthesis Entertainment’s Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni , Applebox’s Neil Marshall and Marc Helwig. Marshall is also set to direct several episodes of the show. The series is set to premiere in 2018.

“The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience,” said Cindy Holland, Netflix vice president of original content. “The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.”

Created by Irwin Allen, the original “Lost in Space” aired for three seasons, from 1965 to 1968 on CBS. The series told the story of the Robinson family, explorers stranded in space far from their home. The original also spawned a 1998 feature film starring William Hurt, Gary Oldman, Matt LeBlanc, Heather Graham and Mimi Rogers.

Netfilx: DAREDEVIL Season 2 Now Available

Season 2 of Netflix’s DAREDEVIL is now available for streaming! Squee!!!

“Dark forces are tearing Hell’s Kitchen apart once again, but this time Daredevil may have to choose between the city and his friends.”

I enjoyed the first season of the Marvel series, although I had one quibble – the show is shot so darkly it’s difficult to even see the characters sometimes.

Maybe that’s a subtle nod to the lead character’s blindness; maybe it’s just a moody kind of thing. A little more light would really have helped me though 🙂

In any case, I will be watching the new season. Leading man Charlie Cox is extremely watchable.

Netflix’s original series Daredevil returns for Season 2 on March 18th.

Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.

Netflix’s ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK Picked Up For 3 More Seasons

Clearly people love what they see on the hit TV series ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK as Netflix announces the show has been picked up for an additional 3 more seasons.

From Variety:

The renewal comes on the heels of “OITNB’s” strong showing at Saturday’s SAG Awards, where the show took the comedy ensemble award for the second year in a row and the comedy actress trophy for star Uzo Abdua for the second straight year.

Netflix is famously tight-fisted when it comes to offering up viewership data about its original series. But execs with the streaming giant have repeatedly confirmed that “OITNB” is its most-watched original series. That has been backed up by the efforts of outside measurement companies to track viewing in the Netflix eco-system.

I’ve never heard of a TV drama being picked up for that many more new seasons. It speaks volumes as to the quality and popularity of the show.

The new season drops on June 17th.

Who misses the fab holiday TV specials of the 60s and 70s?

Well, so does Golden Globe winner Bill Murray.

So he’s gathered celeb friends like George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Chris Rock, Amy Poehler and more to take part in a Netflix produced extra-special dose of holiday cheer with this all-star musically-driven holiday special, A Very Murray Christmas.

Trailer description: Set inside New York City’s iconic Carlyle hotel, A Very Murray Christmas opens with Murray preparing to host a live, international holiday broadcast.

After a blizzard shuts down the production, he makes the best of the situation by singing and celebrating with friends, hotel employees and anyone else who drops by.

A Very Murray Christmas premieres Dec. 4 on Netflix.

Netflix’s SENSE8 Gets Picked Up For Second Season

The Netflix hit series Sense8 will be back for a second go-round, the network announced on Twitter.

The trippy sci-fi show followed eight different characters living across the planet (all born on August 8th) who find themselves somehow connected to each other mentally and emotionally. The cast was the picture of diversity with two LGBTs in the mix: a trans lesbian San Franciscan Nomi (played by trans actress Jamie Clayton) and closeted Mexican TV star Lito (played by Miguel Ángel Silvestre).

When executive producer J. Michael Straczynski told reporters at the show’s TCA panel that he was “still awaiting word” about a second season fans got worried. “We’re cautiously optimistic, but, ultimately, it’s Netflix’s call,” the ep said.

I loved the series. While it was a bit slow to get going, you realized after an episode or two the creators had to lay the foundation across 8 different storylines. By the time we got to the season finale, it was very, very cool.

Looking forward to the new season.

Here’s a look behind the scenes of the sci-fi hit.
