Trump Reverses On Awarding Himself G7 Summit Contract

After much pushback from Republicans and Democrats, Donald Trump announced he will not award himself the contract to host the next G7 summit at his Florida golf resort. Trump attempted to say the decision wouldn’t enrich him because he offered to host the event ‘at cost.’ Of course, even if that were to be true (who would ever know?) the amount of world-wide press/publicity his property would get would be worth millions at a minimum. Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told Fox News’ Chris Wallace Team Trump was “surprised at the pushback” they received over the idea. As CBS News’ David Begnaud notes “it’s surprising that they were surprised.” In that Trump owns the Doral, he was going to make money off of one of the biggest annual political summits in the world.

So, Trump decided NOT to commit a felony and now he’s mad about it???

Mulvaney Denies Saying What He Said But Chris Wallace Has The Receipts

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told the press Donald Trump used military aid to Ukraine as leverage to get the Ukrainian government to investigate Trump’s political opponents. When asked if the aid was conditioned on investigating Democratic National Committee server, Mulvaney said, “We do it all the time.” He denied it to Chris Wallace, but Wallace brought the receipts. #oops “You were asked specifically by Jonathan Karl was investigating Democrats one of the conditions for holding up the aid, was part of the quid pro quo, and you said ‘it happens all the time,’” Wallace said. Mulvaney claims since he himself never uttered the words ‘quid pro quo’ it can’t be pinned on him.

WH Chief Of Staff Admits Trump Withheld Ukraine Aid As Pressure For ‘Favor’

Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney
Wow. So, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told the press today that military aid to Ukraine was withheld at one point conditioned on the ‘favor’ asked by Donald Trump that the Ukrainian government investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son. From the New York Times:

It was the first time a White House official has publicly acknowledged what a parade of current and former administration officials have told impeachment investigators on Capitol Hill.

“The look-back to what happened in 2016 certainly was part of the thing that he was worried about in corruption with that nation,” Mr. Mulvaney told reporters, referring to Mr. Trump. “And that is absolutely appropriate.”

He said that the aid was initially withheld because, “Everybody knows this is a corrupt place,” and the president was demanding Ukraine clean up its own government. But Mr. Trump also told Mr. Mulvaney that he was concerned about what he thought was Ukraine’s role in the 2016 campaign.

White House Acting Chief Of Staff: Trump Rhetoric ‘Not To Blame’ For White Nationalist Shootings

Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney told ABC News reporter Jon Karl that Donald Trump’s heated racial rhetoric is not to blame for the rash of recent mass shootings by white nationalist terrorists.

“This is a serious problem … but they are sick, sick people and the president knows that … I don’t think it’s fair to try and lay this at the feet of the president.”

Mulvaney’s title is ‘Acting’ Chief of Staff for a reason. He’s merely an actor in Trump’s reality show, saying the lines he’s given.

Mick Mulvaney: Democrats Will “Never” Get Trump’s Taxes

During an appearance on state TV this morning, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told Fox News Sunday that Democrats will never get their hands on President Trump's tax returns, calling the request is "a political stunt."

During an appearance on state TV this morning, acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told Fox News Sunday that Democrats will never get their hands on President Trump’s tax returns, calling the request is “a political stunt.”

On Wednesday this week, House Ways and Means Committee chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) formally asked the IRS on Wednesday to turn over 6 years of President Donald Trump’s tax returns citing a little-known IRS code that gives only the chairs of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee the power to request tax documents from anyone.

Mick Mulvaney Admits Mexico Can’t/Won’t Pay For ‘The Wall’

During an appearance on ABC News’ This Week, incoming ‘acting’ White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney acknowledged (outloud!) that Mexico can’t actually “pay for the wall.”

Mulvaney tried to sell the idea that the wall is getting built and Mexico is taking part in improved border security. But host Jon Karl points out that Mexico isn’t ‘paying for the wall.’

Mulvaney – “Technically, you and I both know that it cannot work exactly like that.”

Shhhhhh – don’t tell the Donald.

Watch below.

In related news, Mulvaney told Fox News Sunday that, “It is very possible that the shutdown will go beyond the 28th and into the new Congress.”

So. Much. Winning.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Trump’s Military Parade Could Cost Up To $30 Million

Mick Mulvaney

NBC News has video footage of Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney telling the House Budget Committee today that Donald Trump’s proposed military parade could cost up to $30 million.

Defense Secretary James Mattis said the Pentagon is currently “putting together some options” on the parade.

I’m of a mind that $30 million could help a lot of sick and/or homeless veterans. But hey, that’s just me.

White House: Meals On Wheels “Just Not Showing Any Results”

Mick Mulvaney

White House budget director Mick Mulvaney explained at a Thursday afternoon White House briefing why President Trump’s newly released 2018 budget cuts billions from the federal program (Community Development Block Grants “CDBGs”) that funds Meals on Wheels.

As many know, Meals on Wheels has provided vital, life-saving food and support for millions of people for 40 years. For many of Meals On Wheels clients, the food delivered to those folks is often the only meals they may eat. And, the interaction with the delivery folks may be the only social contact some of these seniors may have.

Specific to the LGBT community, many receiving Meals On Wheels services are HIV/AIDS patients who need the nutritional support.

Mulvaney said today that the CDBGs are “just not showing any results.”

“We can’t spend money on programs just because they sound good. I can’t defend that anymore,” Mulvaney said, repeating that Meals on Wheels and associated programs “don’t work.”

“We’re not going to spend [money] on programs that cannot show that they actually deliver the promises that they’ve made to people.”

Mulvaney also addressed cuts to after-school programs: “They’re supposed to help kids who don’t get fed at home get fed so they do better in school. Guess what? There’s no demonstrable evidence they’re actually doing that.”
