NC: Amendment One – Every1Against1

Same-sex marriage is already illegal in North Carolina. Which means voting AGAINST Amendment One is not a vote to legalize same-sex marriage.

Amendment One (SB514) is a proposed change to Article 14 of the North Carolina State Constitution that will appear before the voters on the May 8, 2012 primary ballot across North Carolina. Amendment One is not only an ideological assault on the civil rights of LGBT North Carolinians, it’s also a poorly written law that will have serious negative, unintended and harmful consequences on North Carolina’s children, families, seniors, women and businesses.

Stating that, “Marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State,” Amendment One aims to turn all unmarried couples — whether same-sex or opposite-sex — into second-class citizens unworthy of basic dignity and fair treatment.

Vote NO on Amendment One in North Carolina on May 8th.

Zach Wahls speaks of the sanctity of marriage on Piers Morgan Show

I agree with everything Zach says here.

The conversation regarding marriage equality needs to be a respectful one so those who don’t yet see this as a civil rights issue can still be open to a dialogue.

I also wholeheartedly agree that the First Amendment does guarantee freedom of religion but it also does not create a theocracy in America.

Many times you hear anti-gay folks say they don’t want homosexuality shoved down their throats. BUT by trying to create laws that follow religious teachings and using the Bible as the primary foundation of their disapproval, those folks are going down the road of trying to make this country a theocracy. By definition, those people are “shoving” their views onto the LGBT community.

I expected something very heavy and legally dense when I clicked on this video.

Instead, what I got was a very clear demonstration of the kind of sideways rhetoric that anti-gay groups put out to keep the LGBT community second class citizens.

One person who attended the service called this “A political message disguised as a sermon.” Take a look.

NC: Newt Gingrich, with three marriages to date, supports the “sanctity” of marriage


Newt Gingrich, a serial adulterer who has three marriages under his belt, has made a video urging North Carolina voters to pass ‘Amendment One’, which would ban same-sex marriage, civil unions, and domestic partnerships in the state, in a new video.

As two new ads noted yesterday, it would also harm children by taking away health insurance, and it would jeopardize the safety of domestic violence victims.

Vote NO on Amendment One in North Carolina.

WA: Pastor receives standing ovation for not joining anti-gay signature drive

The Rev. Tim Clark received a standing ovation Sunday from the congregation at Seattle’s Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church when he announced that the parish would not gather signatures for a referendum to repeal same-sex marriage.

“I am happy to report that Our Lady of the Lake parishoners have been overwhelmingly and, thus far, unanimously supportive of the decision I made NOT to gather signatures in support of this Referendum,” Clark wrote in response to an e-mail.

“The standing ovation experienced during one of the Masses says less about me and much more about the health of this parish. I only wished the archbishop could have experienced the sustained applause — the ‘sensus fidelium’ — of the people. He needs to listen to this ‘voice.’ That is my prayer.”

Rev. Clark has said that faith should not be politicized:

“What troubles me is the message this whole approach sends which I find discriminatory and insensitive. To follow through with his wishes would be hurtful, divisive and a countersign to what we are trying to foster in this Catholic community in Wedgwood.

“I deeply believe, and say this with boldness, that this approach is not in the mind of Christ.”

Archbishop Sartain left the decision whether or not to gather signatures to the discretion of pastoral leaders.
