Anti-Government “Patriots” Plan To Stop U.S. Marshals From Arresting Kim Davis Again

Oath Keepers stationing themselves as snipers near Bundy Ranch
near Las Vegas last year

You’ll recall the Oath Keepers, a heavily armed, anti-government “Patriot” group, from their standoff last year at the Bundy Ranch near Las Vegas, Nevada, and also stationing themselves armed with heavy duty assault rifles outside military recruitment centers this year after the Chattanooga shooting.

In addition, they made an unsettling appearance in Ferguson, Missouri, with their assault rifles, walking among protesters in an act of intimidation.

Now, the group says they will offer to be Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis’ “personal security detail” in order to stop federal marshals from arresting Ms. Davis should she renege on her agreement to not interfere with the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples in Rowan County.

Via Right Wing Watch:

Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes announced yesterday that he had reached out to Davis’ lawyers at Liberty Counsel to offer the protection of his group, which he says is already forming a presence in Rowan County, Kentucky, where Davis was recently released from jail after prohibiting her office from issuing marriage licenses.

Rhodes said in a statement that his position has nothing to do with gay marriage, but rather his conviction that Davis had been illegally detained by the federal judge who held her in contempt for violating multiple court orders.

Rhodes said that the Rowan County sheriff should have blocked U.S. Marshals from detaining Davis, but since neither the sheriff nor the state’s governor will do their “job” and “intercede” on behalf of Davis, the Oath Keepers will have to do it instead. “As far as we’re concerned, this is not over,” he said, “and this judge needs to be put on notice that his behavior is not going to be accepted and we’ll be there to stop it and intercede ourselves if we have to. If the sheriff, who should be interceding, is not going to do his job and the governor is not going to do the governor’s job of interceding, then we’ll do it.”

Rhodes says his guys are already in the area and more are on their way. He says his group plans to “lead by example” should law enforcement seek to arrest Ms. Davis again.

In my opinion, this is basically private citizens choosing to take the law in their own hands (or oppose it).  Bad idea.

Let’s see: assault rifles in the hands of folks who aren’t trained to handle high pressure situations.

What could possibly go wrong?

Rock Band Survivor To Kim Davis: We Wouldn’t Grant Her The Rights To Charmin, Let Alone Our Song

Remember that time the rock band Survivor gave permission to Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis to use as her “victory” music at the rally held for her yesterday?

Yeah, neither do Survivor band members Jim Peterik and Frankie Sullivan.

After the music was played to celebrate her release from jail for breaking the law, the internet was a bit agog at the song’s usage. Here’s just a sample:

But it was band members Peterik and Sullivan who really got incensed.

Peterik sent this statement to Billboard – “I was very surprised and dismayed at the misuse of the song I co-wrote with Frankie Sullivan for Rocky lll,” he said. “The song has motivated thousands through the years to reach beyond their limits. Its use for the release of Kim Davis does not support my views or my politics. I have contacted my publishers to make sure this usage is stopped immediately.”

And Sullivan took to his Facebook page with this: “NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use “My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger.” I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin!”

By the way, since it’s release in 1982, “Eye Of The Tiger” has sold over 9.5 million physical and digital copies. The song topped the Billboard chart for six weeks, earned an Grammy Award, a People’s Choice Award and an Academy Award nomination.

Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver: Forcing Kim Davis To Do Her Job Is Like Asking Her To License Child Rape

Right Wing Watch has the details:

Mat Staver, the Liberty Counsel attorney who is representing Kentucky clerk Kim Davis during her ongoing refusal to issue same-sex marriage licenses, appeared on the “WallBuilders Live” radio program today, where he said that requiring Davis to issue such marriage licenses is like requiring her to provide licenses to “sodomize children.”

“A clerk provides licenses to do something,” Staver explained. “A license to operate a motor vehicle on the road, a license to build a particular facility or a license to do this or a license to do that or a license to operate a business. So that person is licensing someone to do something and in this case, they’re licensing what? They’re licensing something that is directly contrary to the core of their religious convictions, to engage in sinful activity among same-sex relations and sanction something that is contrary to the Scriptures and that is marriage of two people of the same sex.”

“To force someone like that to give a license for something that will legalize, that will put a stamp of approval on something that is absolute rebellion against God, sinful, then that is a direct collision of unprecedented magnitude,” he continued, saying that requiring Davis to do her job is like requiring her “to grant a license to engage in pornography, to grant a license to sodomize children or something of that nature.”

U.S. District Judge Bunning Releases Kim Davis From Custody

Click pic to enlarge

U.S. District Judge David Bunning has released rogue County Clerk Kim Davis from custody on the condition that she not interfere with the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples by her deputy clerks.

Should she interfere, the judge threatens “appropriate sanctions,” whatever those might be.

The judge also calls for Status reports every 14 days from the deputy clerks on the compliance with the court’s order.

The HRC issued this statement upon her release:

“It is imperative that Kim Davis follow the law and allow same-sex couples to access their constitutional right to marry the person they love. Period,” said HRC Legal Director Sarah Warbelow. “While Davis has the right to believe whatever she likes, as a public official she has no legal basis to refuse to follow the Supreme Court’s ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges. The overwhelming majority of public officials across this country are following the law, and history will not judge her kindly. It’s far past time for this needless ordeal to end.”

Not sure what’s next. Will bat-shit crazy Kim Davis interfere? Will she get fined or thrown back in jail?

Tune in next time – same Bat-time, same Bat-channel.

Kentucky Gov. Beshear Says Kim Davis’ Conflict Is “Between Her And The Courts”

Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear

Rogue County Clerk Kim Davis continues to cool her heels in the hoosegow in Rowan County as her lawyers file an motion to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals appealing her contempt of court charges.

Her lawyers have also asked Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear to “exempt” her from having to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples until the state legislature can convene in January and perhaps pass legislation removing the names of county clerks from marriage licenses.

Beshear’s answer was to say he has no intention of responding to the request saying the conflict was a “matter between her and the courts.”

Most legal analysts say Davis’ team has little to no chance of receiving any kind of respite from the 6th Circuit.

In other “Kim Davis” news – the much anticipated crowd-sourcing campaign to raise money for Davis was launched over the holiday weekend, but so far it hasn’t grown into the vast windfall other anti-gay folks have seen. At this writing the fund has raised less than $6,000.

I guess Davis will have to look to a book deal to make her martyr millions.

Matt Baume: Here Come The Kim Davis Clones

LGBT activist Matt Baume explains how a bill currently in Congress could end up creating tons of Kim Davis clones across the county, with the legal ability to discriminate against LGBTs.

Imagine if there was a whole army of Kim Davises turning away same-sex couples at every level of government, and there was no way to make them to obey the law.

That’s just what Congress is considering: a bill that would create unlimited Kim Davis copycats across the entire country.

Not only would it let anyone refuse to recognize same-sex couples, but it would also affect straight couples who have sex outside of marriage. Nuts!
