HBO’s “Looking” picked up for 2nd season

HBO’s freshman series Looking has been renewed, Variety reports:

“Looking” premiered last month to a small audience, but has grown its audience with each of its last three episodes. The pickup comes as HBO sorts out its comedy slate with a renewal last week for “Getting On,” and cancellations after maiden seasons for comedies “Hello Ladies” and “Family Tree.”

While the show started out with small-ish audiences, the average audience is now up to 519K live viewers.  But where the show really shows it’s support is in “gross views.”  When you factor in all original run views, previews, On Demand and HBO Go, the average weekly viewership is up to 2million.

Inside last night’s episode of HBO’s LOOKING

I’m personally loving this show.

I read that a lot of people have moved on from the show because in part because it doesn’t move along very quickly, or something like that.

For me the exploration of these characters IS the show for me. And I find it immensely relatable.

Last night’s episode utilized only two characters on a day long “getting to know you.” And the thoughtfulness of the interplay was very honest and not heavy-handed.

I like.

HBO’s LOOKING – Episode 4 clip “Folsom Street Fair”

From upcoming Episode 4 of HBO’s LOOKING – Watching the Folsom Street Fair from a distance, Patrick (Jonathan Groff)  and Kevin (Russell Tovey) discuss the fine details of the famous San Francisco street fair.

I think Jonathan is funny with his answer when asked if he has a pair of chaps in his closet – “Maybe I do, and maybe, I do….”

Out actor Jonathan Groff joined Peter Travers on ABC’s Popcorn to chat on his role as “Patrick” in the new HBO series LOOKING.

At the end of the interview, Travers asked Groff to sing a song “that says ‘This is how I feel now, this is Jonathan Groff.’”

Groff offers up an impromptu serenade of Frank Sinatra’s “I Fall In Love Too Easily.”

HBO posts opening episode of new series LOOKING on YouTube

In a smart marketing move designed to attract even more viewers, HBO has posted the entire premiere episode of it’s new LGBT-themed series “Looking” on YouTube for anyone to watch.

If you don’t have HBO, go take a look and check it out.

The principals and supporting cast are talented and engaging; and the story lines are completely relate-able without being manipulative. I was sold, and my DVR is set for the whole season.

HBO avoids original programming collision with Super Bowl

HBO will move it’s Sunday night original series programming to Saturday night, February 1st, for one weekend to avoid head-on competition with this year’s Super Bowl.

Instead of pitting their shows against the biggest American sports event of the year, HBO will debut new episodes of their original shows at their normal times on Saturday — “Girls” at 10 p.m. EST and “Looking” at 10:30 p.m. EST. A re-run of the third episode of “True Detective” will lead into the double header, according to TV Guide listings.

“Girls” will air its fifth episode, “Only Child.” Its description reads, “Hannah looks for a new publisher in the wake of another social misstep, and tries to broker peace between Adam and Caroline. Meanwhile, Marnie asks Ray for an honest assessment of her personality; and Shoshanna discovers her future plans with Jessa.” “Looking” will debut its third episode, “Looking at Your Browser History.”

Both will appear again at their normal times on HBO’s Sunday night lineup, as re-runs.

Apparently, HBO did the same scheduling shuffle last year to avoid any hits to viewership due to the Super Bowl.

Pretty smart 😉
