Madonna: Gay Rights Are More Advanced Than Women’s Rights

Speaking to Out Magazine, LGBT ally Madonna declares that the gay rights movement has surpassed the women’s rights movement:

“Gay rights are way more advanced than women’s rights. People are a lot more open-minded to the gay community than they are to women, period.

“It’s moved along for the gay community, for the African-American community, but women are still just trading on their ass. To me, the last great frontier is women.

“Women are still the most marginalized group. They’re still the group that people won’t let change.

“You’re still categorized – you’re still either a virgin or a whore. If you’re a certain age, you’re not allowed to express your sexuality, be single, or date younger men.”

Scotland: Hillary Clinton urges more voices for universal human rights

Speaking at Scotland’s St. Andrews University, where she received an honorary doctorate, Hillary Clinton spoke passionately about human rights for all – women’s rights, gay rights and religious freedoms.  From the Scotsman:

“We need more voices speaking up for universal human rights. We have honoured some of the great advocates here today who have spoken out courageously for women’s rights, gay rights and religious understanding, showing us that our communities and institutions are strongest when equality and opportunity are open to all people and freedom of conscience is respected.

“And it is important that as we chart our way forward in this new century, we bring with it the enlightened view that every individual around the world regardless of gender, religion, race, ethnicity or orientation, should be able to contribute to their societies and to have the chance to live up to his or her God-given potential.”

This was Hillary’s first public foreign visit since stepping down as US Secretary of State.
