Quick update on the economy
Infographic: Economic effects of marriage equality in Illinois
The Williams Institute has released an infographic detailing the potential economic effects of marriage equality in Illinois.
Among other things:
• Estimate is 11, 525 LGBT couples will marry in first three years
• That could result in $103 million in spending in relation to weddings
• The state could see $8.5 million in tax revenues in relation to that spending
• Illinois’ addition of marriage equality bring the total to 37% (from 33%) of Americans living in states with marriage equality
Unemployment drops to 7.2%
The U.S. economy added 148,000 jobs in September, suggesting that employers held back on hiring before a 16-day partial government shutdown began Oct. 1.
Still, hiring was strong enough to lower the unemployment rate. The Labor Department said Tuesday that the rate fell to 7.2 percent, down from 7.3 percent in August and nearly a five-year low.

Satirical tweet of the day
Seriously, folks. I say it over and over, but this clearly makes President Obama the WORST “socialist” in the history of the concept. Actually, isn’t this the opposite of “socialism?”
Wall Street is soaring, 38th straight month of positive job growth, unemployment dropping – what are the GOPers going to have left to complain about?
Stock market hits 5 year high
2012 homes sales rose to 5 year high
The National Association of Realtors reported yesterday that home sales from 2012 reached 4.65 million. That’s an increase of 9.2% over 2011.
In addition, home prices rose due to a tighter supply of homes for sale, with inventory dropping to 1.82 million – a 12 year low.
The demand for homes has also pushed builders to speed up construction, adding new jobs to the economy. New jobs in construction for December 2012 alone totaled 30,000 – the most in 15 months.
Whoo-hoo!

President Obama is the worst socialist in the history of the world

The Republican rhetoric about President Obama and the private sector is so common, it no longer surprises: the White House has an “anti-business” agenda, the argument goes, which undermines private enterprise.
And yet, we continue to see new evidence all the time that Obama is the Worst Socialist Ever.
The New York Times reported yesterday, “United States corporate profits reached a record high in the third quarter of this year, even adjusted for inflation, according to a report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis.” Check out the chart above.
You’ll notice in the image, published by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, that post-tax corporate profits collapsed when the economy crashed in 2008, but then sharply improved after Obama became president, reaching their highest point ever this fall.
It’s against this backdrop that the right still complains bitterly that the president is a radical socialist who says mean things about “job creators.” To ask slightly more of those enjoying record profits, Obama’s detractors argue, is an “outrage.”
Indeed, many of the business leaders who’ve benefited under the status quo invested heavily to defeat the president — ostensibly because they’ve been so dissatisfied with the status quo.
