Guest post by Lawrence Pfeil, Jr. Playwright Thornton Wilder was never open about being gay, nor did he write about that part of life in his metaphysical three-act play, Our Town. But this week, the classic play will be reimagined set to the dance floor beats of 1979 when The Village, A Disco Musical! premieres at Dixon Place for a limited run engagement. New Music: Ten City ‘Be Free’

Ten City releases its first new music in 25 years - Be Free Dance band Ten City shares its first new music in 25 years with their new single, “Be Free.” Byron Stingily (lead singer & songwriter) and electronic music producer Marshall Jefferson bop along to the disco beat as the track finds its groove with a funky bass guitar and dance-tastic horns. “’Be Free’ encompasses the spirit of Dance and House Music! Many times people focus on our differences but ‘Be Free’ speaks to how we are more alike than different,” says Stingily about the song. “It is a song about respecting and appreciating our differences!”

At a time when we can really use it, “Be Free” has an underlying message of inclusivity with lyrics that remind us we are all alike, that we all deserve freedom and we deserve to be respected. New Music: Coldplay “Adventure of a Lifetime”

My favorite rock band, Coldplay, shares this first track – “Adventures of a Lifetime” – from the upcoming album A Head Full of Dreams (due out 12/4/15).

I like.

I hadn’t expected Coldplay to play around with disco grooves, but it works for me. Chris Martin’s vocals mix right into the feel-good buoyancy of the EDM kick-ball-change.

“I feel my heart beating/ I feel my heart underneath my skin/ I feel my heart beating/ Oh, you make me feel/ Like I’m alive again,” Chris Martin sings on the song.

Music Video: Giorgio Moroder – “Déjà Vu” featuring Sia

Disco legend Giorgio Moroder has been teasing out a few tracks from his upcoming album that will feature high name factor recording artists like Kylie Minogue and Britney Spears.

Today, he shares his collaboration with the fab Sia, “Déjà Vu.”

Drew Lipson is the handsome male lead of the video; Moroder makes cameo appearances as the DJ and the Driver.

Great song – watch this be huge on the dance floor.

Funky Friday: Giorgio Moroder Teams Up With Sia “Déjà Vu”

The internet “hustle” is a bit more fun today thanks to the title track of Giorgio Moroder’s upcoming album DEJA VU featuring vocals by the fab Sia.

I shared Moroder’s collaboration with Kylie Minogue for the project back in February.

New Music: Jimmy Somerville “Homage”

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/homage/id959663692

Iconic recording artist Jimmy Somerville drops his newest album – Homage – on Tuesday and it is all about his love of classic disco. Real disco – the horns, the rhythm, the beat, the bass…

You like disco? Somerville has you covered.

Says Somerville:

“I’ve finally made the disco album I always wanted to and never thought could. If I was 15 again I’d buy it, sit on my bed, slowly open the gate-fold, slide out the vinyl, place it on the turntable then jump off the bed and imagine someone just passed me a tambourine…I’d be in heaven! The horns, the strings, the bass, the guitars, the drums, the backing vocals and the melody….the escape. So open your ears embrace the groove and pay homage to an all too easily derided sound … I LOVE Disco!”

With a career spanning over 30 years, you can hear the emphasis throughout the new album on achieving the musical authenticity of the original disco era Jimmy grew up with and loves so much.

Check out the first official music video below, and then head over to iTunes to download the album.

New Music: Jimmy Somerville “Travesty”

Lead off single “Travesty” from 30 year pop legend Jimmy Somerville’s upcoming album  Homage – available October 28th via Membran.

Via press release:

“Travesty”, written by Jimmy and produced by long-time producer John Winfield, is a taster of his forthcoming album Homage that as the title suggests, pays homage to the disco era. The emphasis throughout the recording of the new album has been on achieving the musical authenticity of the original disco era Jimmy grew up with and loves so much.

Pure classic disco sounds here – the horns, the bass, the funky guitar, the synths and the background vocal “oohs” and “ahhs” – just perfect. The authenticity can’t be denied.

Hit play and get down with your bad self.

Disco legend Randy Jones, Village People Cowboy, announces wedding plans

Disco legend Randy Jones, of the Village People, is rounding up friends and family in Manhattan to legally wed longtime partner Will Grega, a software developer and composer, during three days of festivities, the couple said in a press release.

The grooms symbolically wed in New York in 2004, but gay marriage wasn’t legal in the state at that time.

No word on whether the couple will “Go West” for their honeymoon or just head down to the “YMCA.”
