Christmas Music: Cyndi Lauper Covers “Hard Candy Christmas”

Music icon Cyndi Lauper adds to her vast history of memorable holiday classics with her new cover of “Hard Candy Christmas.”

This is officially my favorite thing today.

Famously recorded by Dolly Parton and written by Carol Hall, the song originated in the play and film The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas.

Says Lauper about the recording: “It’s very hopeful,” Lauper says of her choice. “As you look around New York City, there’s a lot of people really not doing that well. I just thought that it was one of those songs that can give you strength. Somehow even if you freakin’ put up a candy cane and one little Christmas light, it can make you feel better. It’s such a wonderful song.”

The track will be available at all digital download and streaming outlets this Friday, December 11.

Music Video: Kylie Minogue “Every Day’s’ Like Christmas”

I posted the hot remix of Kylie Minogue’s new holiday song, “Every Day’s Like Christmas,” a few days ago. But today we get the official music video for the song.

It’s a sweet video, especially since it includes current real-life bearded bf Joshua Sasse, who could not look hotter. Woof.

You can find Kylie Christmas on iTunes here.

Merry merry!

Christmas Music: Kylie Minogue “Every Day’s Like Christmas” Remixed

Check this bright and shiny new remix of Kylie Minogue’s new “Every Day’s Like Christmas” (from her new album Kylie Christmas) by Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman.

This marks the first mix in decades that reunites Kylie with the legendary producers that she worked with at the very start of her career.

Watch for Kylie’s Christmas concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall on December 11th – her first ever headline show at the prestigious venue. The show will be filmed for TV.

Merry merry!

Christmas: Kylie Minogue & James Corden Duet On “Only You”

Christmas comes early for Kylie Minogue fans as she shares the first single from her upcoming holiday album, Kylie Christmas.

Duetting with Late Late Show host James Corden, “Only You” is a cover of the 1982 hit by Yazoo.

About the track, Kylie says, “As a fan and friend, I’m so excited to have James Corden duetting with me on the song ‘Only You’. He suggested the song for my Kylie Christmas album and I just knew he would sound amazing on it. It’s so subtle and lovely and I think it will surprise a lot of people.”

The full album drops this Friday, November 13th. You can pre-order the album now and get “Only You” immediately at iTunes.

Mental Floss: 31 Things You Didn’t Know About Holiday Songs

Having done my “12 Days of Christmas Music” lead up to Christmas Day, I thought in the aftermath of the big holiday I’d share this quick and fun video of “31 Things You Didn’t Know About Holiday Songs” from the vlog Mental Floss.

Some fun facts here. And it moves quick for those like me with a short attention span.

Christmas Music: Billy Porter “O Holy Night”

Christmas Day, so I’ll post a couple more holiday music vids – just because 🙂

And how can you go though the Christmas season without this one? My pal Billy Porter (still knocking it out on Broadway with his Tony Award-winning performance as “Lola” in KINKY BOOTS) sings “O Holy Night” like no one.

Merry merry, kids!

Darlene Love’s Final LATE SHOW Performance of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”

For the 28th (and sadly final) Christmas, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Darlene Love visited David Letterman and The Late Show to perform her iconic holiday hit “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).”

What began in 1986 with just a four piece band evolved to this final epic performance which includes nearly a dozen backup singers and a horn section. Best of all, she plants herself atop the piano for the final triumphant chorus sounding just as powerful as she did when she recorded the song in 1963.

Love says she will not perform the song on TV ever again.
