Mariah Carey Had An ‘Extremely Uncomfortable’ Moment With Ellen DeGeneres

Add international pop superstar Mariah Carey to the list of folks who have had ‘uncomfortable’ moments with beleaguered talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. In a new interview with Vulture, Carey is asked about a 2008 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that recently resurfaced on Twitter amid the numerous allegations of behind-the-scenes turmoil at the gabfest. At the time of the appearance, rumors were swirling that Carey was pregnant. It turns out she was BUT she hadn’t announced the news yet. DeGeneres pointedly asked Carey about the possible pregnancy and Carey demurred. But, in an attempt to break the news, Ellen pulled out glasses of champagne and challenged Mimi to imbibe. The pop star, clearly a bit distressed in the moment, kept trying to avoid the question. Click the center of the image below to watch.

“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say,” Carey tells Vulture. “And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath.” “I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage,” says the 5-time Grammy Award winner. “I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.” Sadly, Carey did experience another miscarriage shortly after the interview aired. Musing on the moment, Carey says there’s “an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented.” A clip of the exchange is still posted on Ellen’s video channel with the caption, “Mariah Carey won’t respond to pregnancy rumors, but Ellen knows how to get an answer out of her without saying anything.” Looking to the future, the award-winning singer/songwriter/actress is in media mode as her long-awaited memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, drops on September 29. And the 18th season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show premieres next week. (source: Vulture)

‘Matt & Dan’ Serve Up Deliciously Off-Kilter Encounter

Don’t you hate it when folks come up to you in public, immediately jump into conversation like they know you, but you have NO IDEA who they are? The latest episode from Matt Wilkas and Daniel Vincent Gordh’s self-titled web series, Matt & Dan, takes the ‘where do I know you from?’ scenario and ramps up the socially awkward score to Level 10. In ‘Best Friends For Never,’ Matt (above) is grabbing some java on his way to CrossFit class when Dan spots him from across the coffee shop. Dan: “Oh, my god…Ben!” Matt: (draws total blank) “So fun…”(not) Amid weird hugs and kisses, Matt tries to decipher where he knows Dan from, but…nothing. Every question is met with a dodge even though Dan clearly knows a LOT about Matt’s life – his recent birthday party, his gym workout schedule… When Matt’s friend ‘Sarah’ (guest star Julia Cho) gets dragged into the increasingly weird meet-up, she tries to divine some background (“Are you in Jill’s Pilates class? Northwestern?”), but only finds herself further and further in the Twilight Zone. We won’t give away where it all goes, but props to the duo for the deliciously off-kilter encounter. Plus – bonus points for Matt Wilkas in a tank top 🙂 Check out the new episode below, and you can find past episodes on their YouTube channel here.

Awkward: Pence Gets Silence After Offering Greetings From Donald Trump To Conference

Vice President Mike Pence

Addressing the Munich Security Conference, Vice President Mike Pence was met with steely silence when he paused for applause after sharing Donald Trump had sent his greetings.

“I bring greetings from the 45th President of the United States of America, President Donald Trump,” Pence said.

Donald Trump To His Supporters: “I Love The Poorly Educated”

Speaking to his supporters after winning the Nevada Caucus, Donald Trump says he loves “the poorly educated.”

And the crowd roars!

By the way, Trump also crows about winning 44% of Nevada’s Latino vote. Not quite right.

Trump won 44% of Latino Republicans. In a recent poll, only 16% of Latino Nevadans identified as Republican. That means he was supported by about 7% of Latinos in Nevada (44% of 16 = 7.04).

Put another way: 93% of Latinos in Nevada did not vote for Trump.

Stephen Colbert & Casey Affleck Sit Through Awkward Interview on THE LATE SHOW

Rather awkward interview segment on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when Casey Affleck shows up a tad under-dressed for Colbert’s taste.

A joke about the rumpled Affleck sets a tone for the entire interview.

At one point, Colbert says, “You really look like a street corner Jesus.” And that was a high point.

Affleck was promoting his new movie Triple 9 in theaters February 26th.

Video: Straight Buddies See Each Other Naked For First Time

“I can’t believe I’m doing this….”

Buzzfeed comes up with some of the strangest but still “can’t look away’ video situations.

This time it’s “Straight guys seeing each other naked for the first time.”

The result is pretty “meh” in terms of responses from the guys, although two besties end up complimenting each other’s package and close with a celebratory “helicokter” together.

Having been in the theater for most of my life, seeing folks naked isn’t a “thing” with me. But I am guessing most straight guys – other than in a locker room at the gym where the code is clearly “Don’t Stare At My Junk” – don’t ever spend any time looking at their bud’s bump.

“And, NOW what do we do…?

Boys Scouts alternative Trail Life has a questionable “salute”

Trail Life members recite creed in Texas meeting

You may have heard about Trail Life. It’s the new “alternative” to the Boy Scouts that still bars gay members.

Via the Mercury News, check out the pic above showing the new members saluting and reciting their “creed.”

Anything odd jump out at you…?

(via Twitter)

UPDATE:  Via Business Insider, John Stemberger, the chairman of the board for Trail Life USA, says he initially saw the picture in a story that was published on MSN on Saturday.

“We were horrified when we saw the photo in question on the MSN site and immediately investigated the situation,” Stemberger said in a statement Monday.

“Many Boy Scout Troops have a tradition of ending their troop meetings with the boys gathering in a circle and then singing the song ‘Taps’ which is a slow ceremonial piece of music played or sung at the end of the day. The Boy Scouts that do this closing ceremony start singing the song with their hands raised straight into the air with the scout sign and then gradually lower their hands till they get to the end of the song when hands are at their side. This longstanding Boy Scout tradition was being followed with this Texas Trail Life troop using the Trail Life sign.”

“Unfortunately the reporter (either intentionally or unintentionally) caught this photograph at the exact angle which makes their arms look like they are in some kind of a stationary mid-air salute– which they are not.”

Atlanta Falcons Asante Samuel wonders why gays “flaunt” their sexualtiy

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel told FOX Sports Radio that he doesn’t understand why gays have to “flaunt” their sexuality when asked about NBA center Jason Collins.

Said Samuel:

“Straight people are not announcing they’re straight, so why does everybody have to announce their sexuality or whatever? You know, what they prefer…So that’s just how I see it. That’s my opinion on things. All respect you know, I have nothing but respect for the people whoever decisions they make and whatever, but you know, you don’t have to show it and flaunt it like that. You know what I’m saying, we have kids out here, too.”

I’m not sure what the “we have kids out here too” comment means, but it comes across as a judgement of some kind in this context.

Samuel addressed the comments again on ESPN:

“I don’t think it’s something we have to express and let be known of what my sexuality preference is – just stick to sports….I don’t want to teach my kids those things. I teach my kids God. You know, how God lives his life.”

Kind of an awkward interview, no?

I’m not sure what Samuel classifies as “flaunting.” Anytime straight folks talk about their girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband without a second thought, they are telling people what team they play for. If you have pictures of your gf/bf/wife/husband, you are showing the world your happy heterosexual life.

Would Samuel consider holding hands in public “flaunting?” Would he advise straight folks to not hold hands in public?
