American Decency Association versus Honey Maid

American Decency Association board member Steve Huston is mad about rainbows and Honey Maid’s inclusive gay family ad campaign:

“Nabisco wants to change definitions like family and wholesome.

“Now that I am older and more interested in protecting definitions like family and wholesome, I’m interested in being a conscientious consumer, watching where I spend my dollar. It’s not a matter of acceptance; it’s a matter of an evil agenda which is being pushed upon America and around the world.

“Satan continues to attack God’s design and skew it to his own workings. He continues to take words like ‘wholesome’ and ‘family’ and twist them for his own purposes. He takes a symbol of God’s promise (the rainbow) and hijacks it, twisting it to his own design.

“Satan calls it normal; God calls it sin.”

I reported on the Honey Maid campaign last month, but why not take another look? I think it’s great 🙂

More Scott Lively on Uganda: Gays should get reparative therapy or go to jail

In an interview with SiriusXM host Michelangelo Signorile, anti-gay crusader Scott Lively explains that his goal in advising Uganda on their recent Anti-Homosexuality Act was to have the government offer reparative or “ex-gay” therapy instead of punitive sanctions.

When asked what should happen if gays and lesbians in Uganda didn’t WANT such therapy (which has been shown to be very damaging to patients to the point of becoming torture), Lively says those people would have to “take whatever the other alternative is, which was probably going to jail.”

President Obama denounces Russian aggression against LGBT community to EU and NATO leaders

Delivering the keynote speech to NATO and European leaders at the Palais Des Beaux-Arts in Brussels yesterday, President Obama pointedly denounced Russia’s campaign against its LGBT citizens.

CNN reports:

“We believe in human dignity – that every person is created equal, no matter who you are, or what you look like, or who you love, or where you come from,” he said.

Later, Obama reiterated criticism of Russian intolerance spawned by a law passed before the Sochi Olympics that outlawed promoting gay rights to children. Western ideals and values of openness and tolerance would endure long past repression, he argued.

“Instead of targeting our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters, we can use our laws to protect their rights,” he said. “Instead of defining ourselves in opposition to others, we can affirm the aspirations that we hold in common. That’s what will make America strong. That’s what will make Europe strong. That’s what makes us who we are.”

World Vision changes policy, allows same-sex married Christians

World Vision announced yesterday a major change in their hiring practices. The humanitarian group says it will now allow same-sex married couples to work for the organization:

The Federal Way-based Christian relief agency World Vision said Monday it will hire Christians who are in same-sex marriages, a dramatic policy change on one of the most divisive social issues facing religious groups.

Richard Stearns, president of the international humanitarian-relief group, announced the hiring change for the United States in a letter to staff. Stearns said the World Vision board had prayed for years about how to handle the issue as Christian denominations took different stands on recognizing same-sex relationships. “I want to reassure you that we are not sliding down some slippery slope of compromise, nor are we diminishing the authority of Scripture in our work,” Stearns wrote. “We are the same World Vision you have always believed in.”

Started by evangelicals, World Vision now has an international operating budget of nearly $1 billion and conducts economic-development and emergency-relief projects around the world.

Immediately, the powers that be in the world of gay hate rose up in protest.  Apparently, it’s better for children to starve than support an organization that allows Christian gays to take part.

The American Family Association called for a boycott via press release:

This decision by World Vision to equate homosexual “marriage” to natural marriage between a man and a woman is in direct conflict with the Holy Scriptures. The first chapter of Romans is very clear.

World Vision has abandoned the warning of Paul and compromised the integrity of a ministry financially supported by Christians who regard Scripture as the final authority on the issue.

Christians who support World Vision should stop as should all of the artists and authors who raise money for them. There are many other organizations that sponsor children around the world who remain true to the gospel.

From Matt Barber writing for OneNewsNow:

“When faced with a choice to either go with the path of least resistance and embrace the lie of the world and the lie of the father of lies – versus embracing the truth of Christ and the truth of scripture and standing firm on the Word of Life, World Vision has chosen to take the path of least resistance.

“Just because you say you’re not an official wing of the church or that you’re a para-Christian organization does not release you from the command to adhere to biblical truth and biblical reality as it pertains to sexual morality. So that is a cop-out – and anyone with a clear understanding of scripture can recognize it as such.

“This very dramatic, counter-biblical, apostate move by World Vision shows where they stand. They have destroyed their credibility as a Christian organization with one fell swoop – and it’s heart-wrenching.”

US to take further sanctions in response to anti-gay law in Uganda

Buzzfeed is reporting on new sanctions to be implemented by the Obama administration in reaction to Uganda’s criminalization of homosexuality:

Money will be shifted away from the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda, a group that has publicly come out in support of the anti-gay law and has received millions of dollars in grants from the United States to help fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Some $2.3 million will continue to go to the IRCU to continue treatment for some 50,000 current patients, but an additional $6.4 million intended for the IRCU will go to other organizations.

Second, because the law makes “promoting homosexuality” illegal, a U.S. funded study to help identify populations at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS has been suspended. The study, which was going to be conducted by a Ugandan university and the Center for Disease Control, has been suspended out of fear that both staff and survey respondents could be put in danger.

Third, because any LGBT person or LGBT ally who now enters Uganda is at risk, money intended for tourism programs will be redirected. “Therefore, approximately $3 million in funding designated for tourism and biodiversity promotion will be redirected to NGOs working on biodiversity protection,” Lalley said.

And finally, the Department of Defense had several events scheduled in the country later this spring and those will be moved to other locations. “Certain near-term invitational travel” for Ugandan military and police personnel has also been suspended or canceled.

The first steps in response to Uganda’s anti-gay law came last week as the CDC suspended funding for a program that supplied Uganda with anti-retroviral medications and HIV testing kits.

Catholic League President Bill Donohue invited to march in NYC Gay Pride Parade

Recently, Catholic League mouthpiece Bill Donohue had applied to march in NYC’s LGBT Pride parade carrying a “Straight is Great” banner in a challenge to its inclusiveness following controversy over gay exclusion from the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Now, NYC Pride has happily invited Mr. Donohue to march in the :

In response to email communications from Bill Donohue, President of the Catholic League, NYC Pride representatives provided instructions for the March’s online registration system.

“Mr. Donohue and his group are free to participate in the 2014 March. His group’s presence affirms the need for this year’s Pride theme, ‘We Have Won When We’re One.’ Straight is great – as long as there’s no hate,” said David Studinski, March Director of NYC Pride.

Chris Frederick, Managing Director of NYC Pride, added, “Straight allies are great. We have thousands of straight people participating in the Pride March, including Catholic groups, who support LGBT youth, families and married couples.”

On February 27, 2014, Donohue gave a video interview with World Over with Raymond Arroyo in which he stated, “If I wanted to get into their gay pride parade with my own float with big banners saying ‘straight is great,’ they would have a right to feel put-upon and I wouldn’t do that to them.”

You can watch Donohue talk about the idea of his marching in the LGBT Parade here.

You’ll note he immediately assumes we would want to bar him from being in our parade. And thus the difference between Donohue and his ilk. Once again the LGBT community shows our inclusiveness in happily allowing people to join us in our celebration.

It’s a shame that Donohue can’t learn the same lesson of inclusion himself.

Mr. Donohue has been an outspoken opponent of legal recognition of LGBT people, loving LGBT families, the science of sexual orientation and HIV/AIDS education.

He continually refers to marriage equality as “crazy” and “one of the most bizarre ideas in human history,” and he has equated the marriage equality movement with the “minority of people in South Africa who took away the rights of Black people.”  On multiple occasions, Mr. Donohue has referred to AIDS as “self-inflicted” and due to going against “natural order.”

And yet, in spite of all that, aren’t we gays great?  WE want to include everyone, even our haters.

Yay us!

See you at the parade Bill!

Focus on the Family promotes their anti-gay “Day of Dialogue”

This kind of thing is always interesting to me.

If you were to come across this little video, you might think that it’s pretty harmless. Candi Cushman, of the innocuous sounding Focus On The Family, tries to present the anti-gay propaganda in a very “polite” and passive-aggressive manner here.

Candi (isn’t that a friendly name?) frames issues in the context of helping students “wade through the confusion” regarding bullying and LGBT students in high schools.  To be honest, I don’t think there’s much “confusion” on behalf of high school students on this issue today.

And isn’t the “host” wonderful to continually praise all of the “great stuff” in the Day of Dialogue parenting guide.  You hear from her that it’s all so fantastic, it really must be, right?

I think some ultra-conservative groups and parents like to present this information in this manner so it doesn’t come across as stridently anti-gay, because that would be “distasteful.”

Instead, Focus On The Family phrases their buzz words in a tone that seems just dog-gone friendly and helpful.

It’s not. What FOTF is doing is trying to sell their propaganda for their “Day of Dialogue” which actually promotes the right to bully in schools.

The Day of Silence is a student-led national event on (April 11th this year) that brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. That’s a good thing.

What FOTF would do is turn “Day of Silence” around and have you believe that it’s primary objective is anti-religion, which it’s not.

It’s all very insidious. Watch FOTF’s little video as much as you can, knowing what the true agenda here is.

Tony Perkins happy that Indianapolis gay couple chose to just “move on” after bakery turned them away

Last Friday I posted about an Indianapolis bakery that shared on its Facebook page that it had told a gay couple they would not – due to their deeply held religious beliefs – make the couple a cake for a commitment ceremony.

Now, anti-gay stalwart and hate group leader Tony Perkins has praised the couple for deciding to walk away from the discrimination they faced:

A few weeks ago, the owners of 111 Cakery got a call from Mike Stephens and Shane Laney, a newly “engaged” couple who wanted to hire Randy and Trish to make the cake for their April commitment ceremony. Knowing it could cost them their business — or at the very least, change it forever — the McGaths never wavered. Politely, they explained they couldn’t accept the job.

Although Mike and Shane complained about the decision on social media, they seem content to “move on” and find another bakery without involving local officials. “We found someone that will do it for us, so we’re going to focus on the good,” Mike said. And that’s exactly as it should be. This is how religious liberty and the free market are supposed to work. Instead of forcing Christians to participate in these ceremonies against their will, the customers simply found their service elsewhere.

As with any business policy, the market will vote with their dollars on whether they agree with the McGaths’ position. And as consumers, they should have that right. Tragically, Mike and Shane’s response is an anomaly among those pushing for the redefinition of marriage.

First of all, how does Tony Perkins know just how “politely” the bakery turned down the request?

And second, Tony Perkins’ says the gay couple did exactly as they should – in the face of discrimination they should turn around, quietly walk out and “move on.” Don’t make a fuss, guys. Just “move on.”

I should note that Indiana has no statewide public accommodation protection for LGBT citizens.

Indianapolis, however, does have citywide LGBT discrimination protections. It is against the law to refuse public accommodations based on sexual orientation in Indianapolis.

Tony Perkins does not care about the law.

Or, rather, Tony Perkins doesn’t care about THIS law.
