American Dance Machine for the 21st Century has released its latest virtual video, “Cool” from West Side Story, performed by 10 talented dancers around New York City. “Cool” was directed by Tony Award nominee Joshua Bergasse, with choreography by Jerome Robbins recreated by Robert La Fosse. Bergasse has staged for ADM21 include “20th Century Fox Mambo” which Josh created for the hit NBC series “Smash,” and “The Great Lover” pas de deux for the 2014 revival of On The Town which was originally choreographed by Jerome Robbins, the revival for which Josh received his first Tony nomination. Back in December, ADM21 released its first virtual video, “The Music and the Mirror” from A Chorus Line, performed by 27 singer/dancers coached by Tony Award winner Donna McKechnie.

The return of American Dance Machine

In the 1970s and 1980s, the American Dance Machine was a major force in preserving choreography from significant Broadway musicals.  Now that idea has been resurrected in the form of American Dance Machine for the 21st Century.
American Dance Machine for the 21st Century, an organization committed to preserving the heritage of musical film and theatre choreography, will stage recreations of work by Susan Stroman, Jerome Robbins, Hermes Pan and Bob Fosse in a Manhattan workshop presentation Nov. 14 at New York City Center.

“Each piece has been coached by artists intimately involved in their original productions,” according to ADM21. Numbers from Broadway’s Contact, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway and Big Deal, as well as the film “Lovely to Look At,” will be presented. The evening is directed by artistic director Margo Sappington and will feature live music with musical direction by Eugene Gwozdz.

The 6 PM Nov. 14 show is presented at City Center’s Studio 4.
