Student Director Crafts Moving Spec Spot For ADIDAS

Bravo to student filmmaker Eugen Merher of Germany.

Merher’s spec spot for Adidas has a visceral pull that’s undeniable. The minute and a half video tells the tale of a senior in a retirement home who dreams of his days as a marathon runner.

And then one day, he finds an old pair of Adidas running shoes.

This one will tug at you.

The 26-year-old student at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg told the Huffington Post that he tried to share it with the footwear company: “We tried sending it to [Adidas’] communications department but they didn’t really react.”

I’ll bet you’ve got their attention now, Eugen 🙂

Adidas To Athletes: We Won’t Fire You If You Come Out

Adidas, the world’s second-largest sportswear company, has added a clause into its contracts with the athletes it sponsors clearly stating that should they publicly come out, the contract can not be termed void or cancelled.

Robin Stalker, the chief financial officer of Adidas, announced the move on Thursday at the first British conference dedicated to improving the visibility of LGBT people in sport.

The new clause reads: “Adidas acknowledges and adheres to the principles of diversity, as this is a central part of the Adidas group philosophy. Therefore Adidas warrants that this agreement will neither be terminated nor modified in case the athlete comes out to the public as a member of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community.”

Loss of sponsorship deals has been a longtime fear of many closeted athletes when considering coming out.

The sportswear giant also tweeted out this image with the text, “The love you take is equal to the love you make.”

Adidas Celebrates Pride Month

Adidas, one of the largest sportswear manufacturers in the world with over sales of $15 million annually gave shoutouts to Pride Month today with a pair of tweets.

The second tweet (below) mentions that a portion of proceeds sales from the adidas Originals Pride Pack will go to New Avenues for Youth. Since 1997, New Avenues for Youth has offered programs and services that empower homeless youth to exit street life.
