Sen. Marco Rubio Doesn’t Like Being Called A “Bigot”

On CBS’ Face The Nation this past weekend, GOP White House hopeful (currently trailing fourth in most polls), cast himself as the victim saying he’s been called a “bigot” for not supporting equal rights for LGBTs.

“Increasingly, Americans feel out of place, because it seems like the people who have access to power and influence win, and everybody else is left on the outside looking in,” Rubio said. “People that hold traditional values are often described as bigots and haters.”

Arguing that President Barack Obama has said that “people that don’t support same-sex marriage are wrong,” Rubio then added, “I have been called a bigot for not supporting [same-sex marriage].”

Last week, the Florida senator suggested that if he is elected president, the justices he will nominate to the U.S. Supreme Court may roll back marriage equality.

It’s worth noting that Sen. Rubio has actively/publicly campaigned against marriage equality and other rights for LGBTs.

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines “bigot” as: “a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices.”

I think that’s a pretty fair description of Sen. Rubio’s situation. He does hold to his own opinions and does not shift from those positions.

So, maybe bigot IS exactly the right word…?

Out Rugby Player Sam Stanley Covers Gay Times Magazine

Hunky, out rugby union player Sam Stanley on the cover of Gay Times Magazine for the publication’s campaign against prostate cancer, which affects 1 in 8 men in the UK, especially those hitting 50 or with males relatives who have it.

Stanley to Pink News, “It’s hard to see anyone go through it, but when it’s someone close to home, it’s tough. And you never know – sometime down the line, it might be a charity that I need help from, too.”

I’m going to leave this right here 🙂

My Invitation Must Have Been Lost In The Mail

Now why is it I never get invited to parties like this?

Boy Culture points up this fun campaign from underwear line Garçon Model for the new Elite Sport line, shot by photog Marco Ovando.

In addition to this festive photo shoot, the company website hosts a “selfie” contest where fans and customers can send in their own pics wearing the sexy skivvies.

FDA To Adjust Blood Donation Policy For Gay/Bisexual Men

According to the Associated Press, the Food and Drug Administration has decided to change it’s decades-old policy for banning blood donations from gay or bisexual men.

The new policy will allow gay/bisexual men to donate as long as they haven’t had sex with a man in the past 365 days. This would be more in line with other countries like the United Kingdom and Australia.

Activists say the change is definitely a step in the right direction, but still falls short.

From the Human Rights Campaign:

“This new policy prevents men from donating life-saving blood based solely on their sexual orientation rather than actual risk to the blood supply,” said David Stacy, HRC’s Government Affairs Director.

“While it’s a step in the right direction toward an ideal policy that reflects the best scientific research, it still falls far short of a fully acceptable solution because it continues to stigmatize gay and bisexual men. It simply cannot be justified in light of current scientific research and updated blood screening technology.

“We are committed to working towards an eventual outcome that both minimizes risk to the blood supply and treats gay and bisexual men with the respect they deserve.”

Florida: Old Dixie Highway Changed To Barack Obama Highway

Riviera Beach, Florida, is now the only city in the country where you can stand on the corner of Barack Obama and Martin Luther King.

It’s official. Old Dixie Highway is now officially President Barack Obama Highway within the city limits of Riviera Beach.

For the residents of Riviera Beach, it has been a long time coming.

Mary Brabham has been a resident of Riviera Beach for years. She says the change is welcome.

“It’s time to let the past be the past. We are moving forward and do things not for one, but for all.”

According to Riviera Beach Mayor Thomas Masters, Old Dixie Highway served as a reminder that this city was once heavily segregated.

Changing signage is about closing the chapter on racism and beginning a renewed sense of pride.

Anatomy Of A Wolf Pack

Barbara Hermal Bach shares this photo by Casare Brai on Facebook with a rather poetic description:

“A wolf pack: the first 3 are the old or sick, they give the pace to the entire pack. If it was the other way round, they would be left behind, losing contact with the pack. In case of an ambush they would be sacrificed.

“Then come 5 strong ones, the front line. In the center are the rest of the pack members, then the 5 strongest following.

“Last is alone, the alpha. He controls everything from the rear. In that position he can see everything, decide the direction. He sees all of the pack. The pack moves according to the elders pace and help each other, watch each other.”

The photo and description have been circulating the web for years, and the ‘breakdown’ in rank has since been disproved.

Epic Fail At Miss Universe – Wrong Winner Announced, Crown Removed

Well, folks will talk about this one for a long time.

Epic fail by host Steve Harvey last night at the Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas, where Harvey announced the wrong winner.

Harvey got the runner-up, Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, mixed up with the actual winner, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo.

After Gutierrez had already walked down the runway with the crown on her head, Harvey stepped forward – owning his mistake – to rectify the horribly awkward situation.

Poor Ms. Gutierrez stands not knowing what to do – all I kept thinking was, “Who’s going to take that crown off her head?”

Slovenia Rejects Marriage Equality

According to early results released Sunday by authorities, it appears 63% of Slovenians voted against legalizing same-sex marriage, while 37% were in favor.

The country’s Parliament passed marriage equality in March, but conservative groups, with support by the Catholic Church, demanded a country-wide referendum.
