“Hamilton” Performance From This Year’s MISCAST Event

Check out this awesome gender-bending performance from this year’s MisCast event in NYC.

MCC Theater’s annual MisCast gala is one of the most exciting and unique theater events in town. Broadway’s hottest stars perform songs from roles in which they would NEVER be cast. And the results are thrilling!

Broadway Boys Luca Padovan (School of Rock), Joshua Colley (Les Miserables) and Douglas Baldeo (Kinky Boots) are looking for a mind at work, work in their rendition of ‘The Schuyler Sisters’ featuring Ana Villafañe (On Your Feet!).

Funds raised from MisCast help MCC Theater produce some of the most talked-about new work Off-Broadway and support their Youth Company and in-school partnerships that serve New York City public high school students, as well as literary development work with emerging playwrights.

The boy in the pink vest, Joshua Colley, is killing me. They all are fantastic.

Ted Cruz Takes A Call From “Donald Trump” During Tonight Show Appearance

Sen. Ted Cruz, making an appearance on The Tonight Show last night, played along for a “phone call” from faux “Trumpster” played by Jimmy Fallon.

During the call, “The Donald” inquires how Cruz won all of Colorado’s delegates without voting, and then offers Cruz advice on how to visit New York in advance of the GOP primary there next week.

I’m not sure comedy is Cruz’s strong suit, but I give him props for trying.

North Carolina: Duran Duran Will Promote Petition To Repeal HB2 At Charlotte Concert

Duran Duran has shared on it’s official website that the band plans to promote voter registration AND signing a petition to repeal the recently passed anti-LGBT legislation, HB2.

With respect to the current storm which is howling through this State, we considered cancelling our show on Saturday, but decided to go ahead, both for the sake of our fans and to support those in North Carolina who feel as strongly as we do about this issue. We see this as an opportunity to make the following statement.

Yes here it is again, just plain old fashioned prejudice, fear and oppression, the same old kind that’s blighted the human race, in varying degrees, for all of its history. Duran Duran is opposed to bigotry and discrimination in all of its ugly forms, and so it follows that we are opposed to the basic premise of HB2. We support the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender community, to have equal opportunities. We support their rights to live free, happy, fulfilled lives. If you live in this State and feel the same way, we urge you to register, so that you can vote; so that your voice can be heard. We urge you to sign this petition which will be presented at the General Assembly meeting on April 25th in North Carolina. You have the power to repeal this outdated and cruel legislation.

Sign up forms for the petition and information about HB2 and how to repeal it will be available at the show on Saturday night – so go visit the teams manning the Equality NC stalls that will be on site.

Our thanks to both Equality NC (www.equalitync.org) and NC Needs You (a new organization dedicated to connecting performers with like-minded nonprofits in the state battling against HB2) for their support and education on this issue.

And, like us, please support Time Out Youth (www.timeoutyouth.org), who will also be at the show and do incredible work with LGBT youth in the area.

Daily Dance: #EpicDanceOff With Dave & Colin For Money Supermarkets

Basically, what we have is the return of “Dave” the dancing businessman (who first appeared in a spot for Money Supermarkets in January), who encounters “Colin” the pole-dancing construction cub.

And the shade being thrown here is deep.

The Twitterverse went out of it’s mind over the advert.

Kentucky Governor Signs Law Removing County Clerk’s Signature From Marriage Licenses

This past Wednesday, Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin signed into law a bill that removes county clerks’ names from the state marriage license.

You’ll recall the long drawn-out story from last year of County Clerk Kim Davis who refused to sign any marriage licenses for same-sex couples after the historic ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court on marriage equality.

From Reuters:

Senate Bill 216, signed by Republican Governor Matt Bevin, also creates a single form that either heterosexual or same-sex couples can use. Applicants can choose between being called bride, groom or spouse.

“We now have a single form that accommodates all concerns. Everyone benefits from this common sense legislation,” Bevin said in an emailed statement. “There is no additional cost or work required by our county clerks. They are now able to fully follow the law without being forced to compromise their religious liberty.”

Michael Aldridge, executive director for the American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky, issued a statement saying he welcomes the move which creates a uniform license for everyone in the state.

John Kasich: Marriage Equality Is Settled Law, Move On

During last night’s town hall with MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, GOP presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich said that while he believes in “traditional” marriage, he considers the issue of same-sex marriage settled law.

From NBC News:

“There could be an effort to pass a Constitutional Amendment. I’m not for doing it. I’m for moving on,” the Republican presidential hopeful said Thursday in a town hall airing on MSNBC. “Exactly where it is now, I’m fine with it,” he said when asked if there are any laws that should be changed to address the issue.

In a landmark decision last year, the Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry. Many in the once crowded Republican presidential field opposed the ruling, and while Kasich affirmed he believes marriage should remain between a man and woman, he told Matthews that everyone should be “a bit more tolerant.”

The Ohio governor often talks about how he recently attended a friend’s same-sex marriage ceremony. “I don’t think it’s right and the wedding that I went to, they know that I don’t agree with them,” Kasich said. Asked by Matthews what gay couples who love each other should do, Kasich said: “They should love one another. That’s the end of it.”

Dr. Paul Song, Sanders’ Supporter, Refers To Hillary Clinton As “Corporate Democratic Whore”

While introducing Sen. Bernie Sanders at a rally in Manhattan last night, Sanders-supporter Dr. Paul Song referred to Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton as a “corporate Democratic whore.”

The full quote:

“Now Secretary Clinton has said that Medicare for all will never happen. Well, I agree with Secretary Clinton that Medicare for all will never happen if we have a president who never aspires for something greater than the status quo. Medicare for all will never happen if we continue to elect corporate Democratic whores who are beholden to big pharma and the private insurance industry instead of us.”

And here’s the video.

After taking the stage, Sanders thanked all of those who introduced him, including Song.

Social media took Song to task:

And it was only after comments like that that Song recanted (a bit) with the soft-pedal that he was talking about Congress, not Clinton – even though he had just mentioned Clinton in the same breath and not Congress:

You’ll note in the video, Song was speaking about Clinton and the presidency – not Congress. Go back and read the quote.

This morning, Sander tweeted this:

The fallout continued today as the progressive group Song chairs, Courage Campaign, moved to put distance between itself and Song’s language.

“Courage Campaign does not endorse political candidates. Dr. Paul Song, acting in his own capacity as a health care advocate, and separate from Courage Campaign, made comments at a rally in New York for Senator Bernie Sanders last night that are contrary to the values of Courage Campaign,” the statement said. “These comments were unacceptable and that sort of rhetoric has no place in our political dialogue.”
