Gretchen Carlson: Can’t We Have 2nd Amendment Rights AND Common Sense Gun Laws?

Gretchen Carlson of FOX News surprised viewers yesterday by expressing her support for banning semi-automatic rifles like the one used to kill 49 people in the Orlando nightclub shooting:

Do we need AR-15s to hunt and kill deer? Do we need them to protect our families? I’m in favor of people being able to carry. Yes, I think some of these mass shooting would have been less deadly if that were the case.

But I’m also with the majority today, taking a stand. Can’t we hold true the sanctity of the Second Amendment while still having common sense?

NYC: Killer Of Mark Carson Sentenced To 40 Years To Life

Elliott Morales, convicted of the 2013 murder of Mark Carson, a 32 year old gay black man in the West Village of Manhattan, has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison.

Morales shot Carson at point blank range in the face after spewing homophobic invectives at Mr. Carson and his companion.

From the New York Times:

“I can’t help but perceive or observe the parallel tragedy in Orlando,” the judge, A. Kirke Bartley Jr., said as he imposed the sentence in State Supreme Court in Manhattan. “That parallel is revealed in hatred, self-loathing, fear and death.”

Mr. Morales, 36, was convicted after a two-week trial during which he represented himself, assuming the dual roles of defendant and defense lawyer. Addressing Mr. Morales, Justice Bartley said that the defendant’s ability to appear in the courtroom “calm, intelligent, well-prepared, well-behaved” could not deter from the fact that he was “something worthy of a character in a Stephen King novel, in short, a monster.”

Morales defended his own case in court. At the time, he argued that the murder should not be considered a hate crime because he had had sexual encounters with transgender women in the past.

Convicted Gay-Basher Kathryn Knott Requests Early Parole

Kathryn Knott

Convicted gay-basher Kathryn Knott has asked her attorney to request early release from her 5-10 month incarceration based on her “good behavior.”

Via Philly.com:

In the motion, Brennan argues that while Knott’s minimum release date based on the sentence is July 8th, she would have become eligible for early release on June 6th, because inmates can get credit for good behavior while in jail. According to the motion, Knott hasn’t had any behavioral issues while at Riverside, and she completed a court-ordered anger management class in April.

Judge Roxanne Covington has yet to rule on the motion.

When Knott does finally get out of jail, she has much to look forward to: two years probation, a $2,000 fine, restrictions on her leaving the state of Pennsylvania or entering Philadelphia, plus a civil law suit filed by the men she hospitalized in the now-famous Center City gay bashing.

Dan Savage: “Donald Trump Is The Enemy Of The LGBT Community”

During an appearance on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes last night, LGBT activist/columnist Dan Savage was asked about GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s claim that he is an ally of the LGBT community:

“We’re not going to fall for it. And you can’t draw a clean line between the LGBT community and the Muslim community because there are LGBT Muslims in the United States and all over the world. Muslims are a part of the LGBT community, not distinct from it.

“LGBT people come from all races, all faiths, all ethnic backgrounds, all classes. And Donald Trump attempting to pit the queer community against the Muslim community is not going to fly. We don’t believe him.

“Donald Trump has pledged to undo marriage equality. Donald Trump is the enemy of the LGBT community just as he is the enemy of the Muslim community. And beating up on what is, in the United States, a vulnerable minority group isn’t the way that you impress other members of other vulnerable minority groups to win their support.”

Savage also weighed in on the possibility that the Orlando shooter might have been gay:

“Self-loathing violent closet case and radicalized religious extremist are not mutually exclusive categories. There are a lot of self-loathing queer people out there. Most of them are self-loathing because of religion, because of the zap religion put on their heads. So he could be both of those things.”

Canadian Prime Minister And Opposition Leader Share Kiss To Protest Orlando Shooting

Woof!

From World News Daily Report:

Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and the New Democratic Party leader Thomas Mulcair, made a surprising stunt yesterday, to denounce the killings that made 50 people in a gay bar in Orlando, Florida.

The two politicians, known for their dislike of each other, gathered for the first time in a joint press conference, yesterday They completely surprised the media and the world, by kissing languidly for several seconds, to fight homophobic prejudices and denounce the recent violence against the LGBT community.

“What happened in Orlando was so terrible, that we didn’t have a choice but to react strongly,” said Mr. Mulcair, moments after the kiss. “Unfortunately, many people still have problems accepting the simple fact of seeing two men kissing each other, and that’s why this kind of gesture becomes so important. When Mr. Trudeau called me to suggest that we should kiss, I must admit that I hesitated a little. However, he quickly convinced me that it was a good idea! It was for a good cause, and to be honest, it was quite a kiss!”

Sen. Pete Sessions: It Isn’t A Gay Nightclub, It’s A “Young Person’s Club”

This is embarrassing.

Apparently, Texas Republican Rep. Pete Sessions attempted to redefine gay Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, where the deadliest shooting tragedy in the history of the country occurred, as not a gay club but as a “young person’s club.”

From Talking Points Memo:

Pulse describes itself as “the hottest gay bar in Orlando” on its website and while the shooter’s precise motive is not yet known, a number of the victims were part of the LGBT community.

Early Sunday, 29 year-old Omar Mateen opened fire at Pulse, which was hosting a Latin night, and killed 49 people before ultimately being shot and killed by officers who stormed the scene to rescue hostages he’d taken.

Here’s what Sessions told National Journal reporter Daniel Newhauser when asked whether the shooting changed his position on a measure that would ban federal contractors from discriminating against LGBT individuals:

Sessions’ communications director, Caroline Boothe, told TPM that Newhauser’s quotes were correct but “taken out of context without the background information.”

“What my boss meant to say was that there weren’t only gay individuals at the club but people from all walks of life were present,” Boothe said.

She added that “at the end of the day we’re all Americans” and said Sessions’ heart grieved for everyone.

Donald Trump: I’m Better For Gays Than Hillary

Clearly delusional, GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump “thanked” the LGBT community for something, no one really knows.

He went on to say he would be better than Democrat Hillary Clinton for LGBT rights saying she would “threaten your freedoms and beliefs.”

All while filling his Twitter page with rainbow balloons…

Trump has said in the past that he opposes marriage equality and if elected president (oh my sides) would nominate SCOTUS justices who would overturn the Obergefell ruling.

He’s also flip-flopped on transgender rights saying at one point recently he supported trans rights then the next day saying “it should be left to the states.”

You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

Anderson Cooper To Florida AG Pam Bondi: “Do You Really Think You’re A Champion Of The Gay Community?”

In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Florida’s Attorney General Pam Bondi found herself explaining how she suddenly became an ally of the LGBT community in the wake of the deadly Orlando shooting when she’s spent years fighting to deny LGBTs rights.

“Do you really think you’re a champion of the gay community? You used language accusing gay people of seeking to do harm to the people of Florida. You argued that in court.

“The hotline that you’ve been talking about on television, which allows family members and spouses of the dead to get information had there been no gay marriage, you do realize that there would be no spouses.

“Isn’t there a sick irony in that? Isn’t there a sick irony that you, for years, were fighting that very idea?”

“Is it hypocritical to portray yourself as a champion of the gay community when – I’m just reflecting what gay people told me – they don’t see you as this?”

“It’s just that, I will say I have never really seen you talk about gays and lesbians and transgender people in a positive way until now.”

Anderson does NOT let go. Good for him. We’ve all wanted to ask her these questions.

Bondi’s statements in support of LGBTs of late can only be described as political opportunism at best.

Bondi spent nearly $500,000 of taxpayer dollars fighting marriage equality in her state.

Bondi was in recent headlines when it came to light that she dropped a pending lawsuit against Trump University just days after a $25K donation to her reelection fund from Donald Trump.
