Out Rugby Player Keegan Hirst: I’ve Spoken To Gay Athletes Who Want To Come Out

Speaking to Gay Star News, rugby Keegan Hirst says since he came out in 2015, he’s counseled several closeted athletes from different sports who would like to come out but don’t feel ready.

Have you spoken to any closeted gay sportsmen?

I’ve had conversations with guys, and I’ve given advice. I’ve said how I found it. There’s been a few guys from a few different sports.

Do you think there is more pressure on people to stay closeted in sports?

I think it is. It’s a lot more focused on football players, probably because there’s a lot more money involved. While it shouldn’t matter who you date, it does. There’s also a big following in football. There’s a big call for people to come out, but it’s a personal thing. We’ve got to make it a good environment for someone to come out before it can actually happen.

What advice have you given to sportsmen in the closet?

You’ve just got to be in the right frame of mind. It doesn’t matter if you’re a sporstman or Joe Bloggs who works 9 to 5. You’ve got to be comfortable in your own skin. And have a good people around you. Do it when you’re ready to do it.

The woofy 29-year-old will soon make his debut for Wakefield Trinity, when he’ll become the first openly gay English rugby player since Gareth Thomas to play Super League.

One Million Moms Loses Their Minds Over Two Animated Same-Sex Characters Kissing

Oh, good grief.

From the homophobic One Million Moms via email:

Alerting all parents! In a first for the Disney Channel, a Disney XD show subtly displayed several gay kisses in an episode that aired a couple of days ago. The “Star vs. the Forces of Evil” episode featured a scene at a boy band concert where several people, including same sex couples, kiss on cue with the music. The gender of various other kissing couples in the crowd is not always visible.

[snip]

This is the last place parents would expect their children to be confronted with content regarding sexual orientation. Issues of this nature are being introduced too early and too soon, and it is becoming extremely common and unnecessary. Disney has decided to be politically correct versus providing family-friendly entertainment. Disney should stick to entertaining instead of pushing an agenda. Conservative families need to urge Disney to avoid mature and controversial topics.

The fleeting moment happens at the 1:27 moment as five or six other animated couples having a smooch.

Can you believe folks care about this???

North Carolina Man Arrested In Connection To Hate Crime In Key West

Kevin Seymour and Kevin Price

According to the Miami Herald, police have identified and arrested a North Carolina man accused of a homophobic hate crime in Key West, Florida.

The Key West Police Department said Brandon Ray Davis, 30, was taken into custody by the Onslow County (N.C.) Sheriff’s Office on an “extraditable warrant” for felony aggravated battery stemming from the Feb. 23 incident. Davis lives in Richlands, N.C.

He is accused of using a deadly weapon — his scooter — to nearly run down two men on bicycles while deluging them with homophobic comments. Since it’s classified as a hate crime, if Davis is convicted, he could face enhanced penalties.

Kevin Seymour and Kevin Price told police that about 1 a.m. on Feb. 23, they were riding bicycles in the 700 block of Duval when they saw a man swerving on a rented scooter. Seymour says he shouted to warn the scooter rider, identified by police as Davis, that he almost hit a car. Davis yelled, “You guys are a couple of fags,” “I bet you faggots voted for that bitch Hillary” and “You live in Trump country now,” police say.

When Seymour threatened to call police, Davis allegedly told him, “If you do that, I’ll cut you up.”

At one point, the scooter rider struck the rear tire of Seymour’s bike, knocking him to the ground. Seymour and Price got the scooter tag number before he fled. The scooter was rented from A and M Rentals. It was found parked near the Southernmost Point.

Police say they identified Davis in part through the scooter rental agency, where Davis left a copy of his driver’s license so he could rent it. Working with North Carolina law enforcement, detectives obtained a photo of Davis. In a photo lineup, Seymour, Price and another witness said it was Davis in the photo, police said.

You have to admit Davis sounds like an idiot. Did he really think he couldn’t be tracked down when he was on a RENTED scooter?

He deserves to have the book thrown at him.

Kellyanne Conway Will Not Be Disciplined For Promoting Ivanka Trump Merchandise

Kellyanne Conway

According to a letter from the White House to the Office of Government Ethics, the White House has determined that Conway acted “inadvertently” and “without nefarious motive or intent” when she told the TV audience on Fox News to “Go buy Ivanka’s stuff.”

From ABC News:

In the Feb. 28 letter to OGE Director Walter Shaub, White House deputy counsel Stefan Passantino said he met with Conway about the incident and briefed her on federal employee ethics laws.

“We concluded that Ms. Conway acted inadvertently and is highly unlikely to do so again,” he wrote. “Ms. Conway has acknowledged her understanding of the standards and has reiterated her commitment to abiding by them in the future.”

“Go buy Ivanka’s stuff,” Conway said in a Fox News interview last month. “I’m going to give a free commercial here. Go buy it today, everybody.”

After the incident last month, the OGE sent a letter to the White House calling for an investigation and review of Conway’s actions — which Shaub described as a “clear violation of the prohibition against misuse of position” — and recommended disciplinary action.

Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, said the lack of disciplinary action is “a very bad sign.”

“Other federal employees would likely be suspended for engaging in this conduct, and White House officials should not be held to a different standard,” he said in a statement. “I hope that the president reconsiders his decision and that he and his staff will take their ethical obligations more seriously.”

I would point out that she was quite clear and cognizant of her language. She literally called it a “free commercial.”

Oprah For President In 2020?

During an interview on “The David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations,” Oprah Winfrey admitted she never seriously considered running for president in light of her lack of political experience.

But, in the aftermath of the Trump win, it appears she’s open to the idea. “I thought, ‘Oh gee I don’t have the experience,” Winfrey said. “I don’t know enough. And now I’m thinking, ‘Oh? Oh!’”

As she notes in the clip below, Trump has proven a political resume isn’t requisite for winning the White House.

Plus, we know she made her billions from scratch. Truly self-made.

Trump’s Congressional Speech Pulls In 17% Fewer Viewers Than Obama’s First Address

Well, you know this is going to irritate some thin orange skin in the West Wing.

From Mediaite:

Well, the overnight ratings are in from Nielsen, and as expected, President Donald Trump’s address to the joint session of Congress drew a significant television audience. However, it didn’t do nearly as well as President Barack Obama’s first address in February 2009.

Looking at seven networks that carried the speech live — ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, Fox News, CNN and MSNBC — the address pulled in a combined household rating of 27.8 in the overnight ratings of Nielsen’s metered markets.

In comparison, Obama’s first presidential address nabbed an early rating of 33.4, a difference of 17%. Those early numbers for Obama turned into a final audience of 52.4 million across the broadcast and cable networks. Comparably, George W. Bush’s first address grabbed 39.8 million viewers.

CNN Poll: 78% Viewed President Trump’s Speech To Congress “Positively”

It would appear that CNN has found it’s way out of “fake news” purgatory, at least for the moment.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer tweeted out the news that CNN’s poll following last night’s address by President Trump at a joint-session of Congress found the speech “Very positive” (57%) or “Some-what positive” (21%) of those polled.

Morale of the story? You get out of detention when you say things Team Trump likes.

As many know, in the past several weeks, the Trump administration has labeled CNN and other media outlets “fake news” when those sources have reported less-than-flattering information on the nascent presidency.

The feeling is so joyous over the current warm fuzzies regarding last night’s speech that the White House has announced a delay on the new, revised executive order regarding immigration policy.

A senior administration official told CNN that they don’t want to take away from the president’s speech. “We want the (executive order) to have its own ‘moment.’”

For historical comparisons, the reaction to President Obama’s first address to Congress was 68% “Very positive” and 24% “Somewhat positive.”

No “Legal Status” Compromise For Undocumented Immigrants From Trump

President Trump

After surprising many with his flirtation yesterday afternoon with possible legal status for undocumented immigrants, the idea was not included in President Trump’s address to a joint sessions of Congress.

Many are curious about what happened between Trump’s lunch with TV news anchors and the actual speech in the Capitol last night.

From the New York Times:

The session with the television anchors started out as a nod to tradition by a president who has broken so many. Like his predecessors on the day of a State of the Union address, Mr. Trump hosted the journalists for what was supposed to be an unrecorded lunch to give them a sense of what he would tell Congress. But the conversation took a surprising turn when some of the anchors asked about his efforts to deport many of the estimated 11 million immigrants in the country illegally. Without being prompted, Mr. Trump then raised the idea of legislation, noting that there had not been any comprehensive law passed by Congress on the subject since Ronald Reagan’s amnesty program in the 1980s.

He told the anchors it was time for a bill that would grant legal status to many of those in the country illegally as long as both sides compromised, similar to the legislation sought but never passed by George W. Bush and Barack Obama. Mr. Trump said he recognized that it would cause him political problems with his conservative base voters, according to people in the room, but added that he thought he could keep them happy since they had stuck with him throughout last year’s Republican primaries.

When Mr. Trump offered the idea, he let the word “compromise” hang in the air, gauging the reaction. He then turned to Hope Hicks, his director of strategic communications, and suggested that the thought could be added to his speech.

As Mr. Trump’s words settled over the State Dining Room, the president’s aides glanced at one another. They moved quickly to alert Mr. Bannon and Mr. Miller, two of the main keepers of Mr. Trump’s address before Congress.

And there, we find the answer: Bannon and Miller were not about to allow their protege some kind of political compromise. “Compromise” has yet to be added to this administration’s vocabulary.

Most political experts, when they heard of the idea being floated, did not buy into such prospects.

And now you know why.

Trump Signals Willingness To Compromise On Immigration

Just hours before President Trump is set to address a joint session of Congress, President Trump told TV news anchors that he could be open to compromise on immigration legislation regarding non-criminal undocumented immigrants.

“The time is right for an immigration bill as long as there is compromise on both sides,” the president told the TV anchors at the White House, according to the New York Times.

A compromise that would allow non-violent undocumented immigrants a legal method to stay in the U.S. would be a major shift from Trump’s campaign rhetoric.

This comes a day before Trump’s new executive order on immigration regarding travel from seven Muslim-majority countries is expected.
