Chechnya: Gay Men Targeted For Arrest And/Or Killing By Chechen Police

Russian newspapers have confirmed that gay men are being targeted in Chechnya.

More than 100 gay men, between the ages of 16 to 50, have been arrested or killed by Chechen authorities, according to the New York Times:

While abuses by security services in the region, where Russia fought a two-decade war against Islamic insurgents, have long been a stain on President Vladimir V. Putin’s human rights record, gay people had not previously been targeted on a wide scale.

The men were detained “in connection with their nontraditional sexual orientation, or suspicion of such,” the newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, reported, citing Russian federal law enforcement officials, who blamed the local authorities.

By Saturday, the paper reported, and an analyst of the region with her own sources confirmed, that more than 100 gay men had been detained. The newspaper had the names of three murder victims, and suspected many others had died in extrajudicial killings.

“In Chechnya, the command was given for a ‘prophylactic sweep’ and it went as far as real murders,” Novaya Gazeta reported.

According to the report, the authorities set to finding and arresting closeted gay men, partly by posing as men looking for dates on social networking sites.

“Of course, none of these people in any way demonstrated their sexual orientation publicly — in the Caucasus, this is equal to a death sentence,” the newspaper wrote of those detained in the sweep.

“I got numerous, numerous signals,” about the sweep of gay men, said Ekaterina L. Sokiryanskaya,, Russia project coordinator for the International Crisis Group, and an authority on the North Caucasus. “It came from too many sources not to be true.”

Instagram: Celebs With the Highest Average Number Of “Like” Per Post

Former UK pro footballer David Beckham

Instagram is easily the most popular social media platform currently in the game.

Back in December of 2016, Instagram crossed the mind-blowing threshold of 600 million users. Of those, around 55% are age 18-29.

And we know how young folks love to follow the escapades of famous athletes, musicians, and reality TV stars.

A study conducted by Project Know looked into how celebrity Instagram posts affect their young followers, and in doing so, found some astounding numbers.

Surprisingly, the data showed that the most-followed users aren’t always the one getting the most engagement on their posts.

Check the stats below which show that Selena Gomez, the most-followed person on Instagram with an eye-popping 115 million followers, doesn’t average nearly the most “Likes” per post.

Instead, one of the world’s most famous soccer players gets that honor.

Here are the 15 artists, entertainers, and athletes with the highest number of likes on average.

You’ll see the expected Kardashians and former boy banders, but it’s male athletes who get the most pop per Instagram post:

15. David Beckham (former UK pro footballer) — followers: 34.7 million – 515,405 likes on average

14. Kim Kardashian (reality TV celeb) — followers: 96.5 million – 535,693 likes on average

13. Kendall Jenner — (reality TV celeb) followers: 77.5 million – 538,945 likes on average

12. Demi Lovato — (recording artist) followers: 55.5 million – 593,296 likes on average

Sacrilege: Alternate Opening Credits For “Sex And The City” Sans Tutu & Splash

Imagine an opening credits of Sex and the City without our heroine Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) wearing a tasteful tutu and getting splashed by a bus?

(Of course, I was always asking: “Who is the hot guy in the black shirt in the background?”)

It turns out there is a never-before-seen alternate opening sequence with “Carrie” wearing a lovely (boring) blue dress walking down the street, and no splash.

From EW:

“There were two wardrobes. One was the tutu, and we did one pass where Sarah Jessica was wearing a blue dress and didn’t get splashed; instead, she trips when she sees the ad,” creator Darren Star recalls to EW of filming in March 1998 on Fifth Avenue near Manhattan’s Plaza Hotel. “In my mind, it was a nod to The Dick Van Dyke Show, but we didn’t use it. It’s in the archives.” Nearly 20 years since SATC debuted, Parker, Star, and costume designer Patricia Field recall the opening that could have been.

Field found the now iconic tutu, featured in the title sequence as we know it, in a $5 bin on a showroom floor and re-created four versions of it. “It was very difficult for the producers to understand the tutu,” says Field. “Sarah Jessica and I were fighting for it, and Darren said, ‘Okay, but I want other outfits as possibilities.’” Looking back, Star can’t imagine a tutu-less Carrie — and frankly, neither can we. “It was such a brilliant choice because, in a way, Carrie’s dancing through her life in New York,” he says.

Here’s the footage (there’s no sound, so don’t turn up your volume):

And, of course, here’s the original we all came to know and love for 6 seasons:

Trump Calls Out “Sleepy Eyes” Chuck Todd For Continuing To Cover Russia/Trump Scandal

President Trump woke up today to chide NBC Political Director Chuck “Sleepy Eyes” Todd for continuing to report on the Trump/Russian connection:

“When will Sleepy Eyes Chuck Todd and @NBCNews start talking about the Obama SURVEILLANCE SCANDAL and stop with the Fake Trump/Russia story?”

“It is the same Fake News Media that said there is “no path to victory for Trump” that is now pushing the phony Russia story. A total scam!”

When all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies agree that Russia worked to disrupt and influence our presidential election, that’s not what I’d call a “total scam.”

Gilbert Baker, Creator Of The Rainbow Flag, Passes Away At 65

Sad news today as we learn of the passing of Gilbert Baker, the creator of the rainbow flag which has become the international symbol for LGBTQ equality.

Baker, an Army veteran and longtime activist, was 65 years old.

Activist Cleve Jones, who knew Baker for more than 40 years, shared the news on Facebook: “I am heartbroken. My dearest friend in the world is gone. Gilbert gave the world the Rainbow Flag; he gave me forty years of love and friendship. I can’t stop crying. I love you forever Gilbert Baker.”

In the 2007 book The American Flag, Two Centuries of Conflict and Concord, Baker is quoted as saying “Flags are torn from the soul of the people.”

Baker created the flag in 1978 for the Pride march in San Francisco, what was then referred to as the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Parade.

Jones has announced that there will be a gathering under the rainbow flag at Castro and Market Streets in San Francisco at 7 pm tonight:
