Rep. Todd Akin cancels on Piers Morgan – Airs :30 apology ad instead

Apparently, Congressman Todd Akin agreed to appear on Piers Morgan’s show to talk about his recent comment about “legitimate rape” victims bodies being able to magically “shut down” pregnancy. And then, it seems Akin cancelled at the last minute.

So Piers decided to make a statement and speak to and about the empty chair Akin was scheduled to be in.

In desperation, Rep. Akin instead released this :30 “campaign ad” asking for forgiveness.

President Obama on Rep. Todd Akin’s “rape” comment

From the President: “Rape is rape. And the idea that we should be parsing and qualifying and slicing what types of rape we’re talking about doesn’t make sense to the American people and doesn’t make sense to me. What I think these comments do underscore is why we shouldn’t have a bunch of politicians – the majority of whom are men – making decisions about women’s health.”

Deleted scene from THE AVENGERS with Mark Ruffalo and Harry Dean Stanton

Remember that strange moment in The Avengers after Mark Ruffalo Hulks out aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier and ends up plummeting to earth and waking up in a pile of rubble as an elderly security guard looms over him?

It turns out there was a lot more to that scene than we got to see, and Entertainment Weekly has the exclusive deleted clip.

When it comes to The Hulk, “Who am I?” is a much more important and complicated question. Is the Hulk just the raw manifestation of Bruce Banner’s suppressed inner fury, or is the mild-mannered scientist the true identity, potentially able to wear and control the big green monster just as Stark dons the Iron Man armor before jumping into battle?

“Are you a big guy that gets all little, or a little guy that sometimes blows up large?” asks Stanton’s security guard, who does more than give Banner some new clothes to wear. He gives him an existential push in the right direction.

The Avengers is scheduled to be released on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D and DVD on September 25, 2012.

The film will also be collected in a 10-disc set titled Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One — Avengers Assembled which will include all of the previous films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Phyllis Diller, comedy legend, dies at 95

Very sad to hear that Phyllis Diller, comedienne and Broadway star, has passed away at the age of 95.

From ETonline.com: Diller’s agent, Fred Wostbrock, told ET, “I was her agent for twenty years. She was a pioneer. She paved the way for everybody, Joan Rivers, Ellen DeGeneres, Roseanne Barr, Chelsea Handler. She was the first.” She passed away in her L.A home surrounded by her family members, and her longtime manager, Milton Suchin, told The Associated Press, “She died peacefully in her sleep with a smile on her face.”

Growing up, one of my best friends, Tim, had a comedy album of hers. Even though I was only 11, I thought she was one of the funniest people I had ever heard. We would play the album over and over, and laugh out loud every time.

God she was funny.

The first video was from her last stand up performance, and fortunately, it’s available on DVD.

And I’d like to add one more thing:

Lisa Whelchel from FACTS OF LIFE to participate on SURVIVOR

Whelchel, former TV teen star (“The Facts of Life”) from Dallas, Texas, one of the Survivors competing for the one million dollar prize and title of Sole Survivor! Survivor premieres Wed., Sept. 19th at 8/7c!

From TV Guide: “She took the good, she took the bad, and now Lisa Whelchel is taking on the jungles of the Philippines as a contestant on the 25th season of CBS’ Survivor, premiering Sept. 19 at 8/7c. The actress, who portrayed snobby Eastland schoolgirl Blair Warner on The Facts of Life and now travels as an inspirational speaker, says she’s not afraid of the show’s harsh conditions. “I love the idea of being out in nature and just roughing it,” the mother of three tells TV Guide Magazine just days before the game started. “I genuinely like people, and I like to know their story and connect with them.”

In a twist, this year will start with THREE tribes of 6 people each. Also, at the start of the show, three former players who had to be medically evacuated will be introduced having a second chance at the game. Those names will be announced later this week.
