Fun Q&A with Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in December 2012 while promoting their holiday CD “This Christmas.” I was at the studio during the event, and afterwards both Olivia and John remarked that it had been one of their favorite promotional appearances. Said Travolta, “We actually got to take all the time we wanted to answer questions fully, and laugh and enjoy it.” I’d never heard of LiveStream before, but I think it’s a great way for people to interact with fans. The “live” aspect made being there exciting, and the fact that it’s available to be watched again later is a big improvement over Google Hangouts. (For the life of me I can’t figure out how to watch a Hangout once it’s over…) You can order their holiday CD “This Christmas” on Amazon by clicking here. p.s. and, of course, you know this isn’t Olivia’s first trip to the Christmas music rodeo…

Henry Rollins on marriage equality
In a post called “Gay Marriage is Punk Rock” at LA Weekly, former Black Flag frontman and perennial ally Henry Rollins celebrates marriage equality in Washington State and wonders when we’ll finally be able to just call same-sex nuptials what they are: “marriage,” no prefix, no suffix, no “othering.”
“Hats off to Washington state where, recently, hundreds of same-sex couples were legally married. I am elated as much as I am frustrated by why this country refuses to wake up and smell the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. I feel for everyone who wanted to get married for so long and were made to feel so bad about who they are. I feel worse for all the Americans in the large number of remaining states still waiting for their turn to enjoy the freedoms and protections bestowed upon them by their very citizenship.
“There is still a long way to go. Marriage equality is a term so ridiculous on its face that when you hear it mentioned, you would think you were in Riyadh. Years from now, perhaps we can lose the equality part, the same-sex part and call it what it is — marriage. As much as the homophobes, an ever-thinning herd, whines and screeches, the earth is shifting underneath their feet and things are getting better all the time. This is going to be an incredible century. Didn’t get off to a very good start but we are making some bold and exciting strides forward.” – Henry Rollins, writing for LA Weekly.

Fiscal cliff – where we’re at so far…
As President Obama continues to make clear he’s willing to explore ideas for compromise, Speaker Boehner is drawing lines in the sand.
A majority of the nation thinks the GOP needs to try harder to find middle ground:
• 53% say the GOP should compromise more, with 41% saying the Democratic Party should give up more of the proposals it supports to develop bipartisan solutions.
• 53% of those surveyed say they view the policies of the GOP as too extreme, up 17 points from two years ago. Only 37% say they view the polices of the Democratic Party as too extreme.
The same percentage of the public, 53%, believes that when it comes to bipartisan compromise, the GOP should be the party to cave on its demands.

Most Americans say gay and lesbian domestic partners or spouses should have inheritance rights and health insurance and other benefits. And a majority say gays and lesbians should be able to legally adopt children.
From the recent Gallup survey:
While 53% of Americans support legalizing same-sex marriage, significantly higher percentages support the idea of equal rights for partners or spouses of gays or lesbians when it comes to inheritance rights and employee benefits, and making it legal for gays and lesbians to adopt children. Support for all three issues is up at least slightly from three years ago.
Less than half of Americans, however, support the idea of openly gay adults serving as Boy Scout leaders. Given the lack of a trend on this question, it is not clear whether support is higher than in the past, or the degree to which the lack of support may reflect respondents’ reluctance to say how a private organization should decide who holds its positions of leadership.
