Carly Rae Jepsen drops out of Boy Scout Jamboree over anti-gay discrimination

Hooray for the good guys!

Carly Rae Jepsen tweeted today that she does NOT plan to take part in the Boy Scouts of America’s Jamboree this summer due to anti-gay practices.

She went on to tweet: “I always have and will continue to support the LGBT community on a global level and and stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe.”

Early today I posted that rock band TRAIN has made the same decision about the Boy Scouts and their anti-gay discrimination.

Yes – the Boy Scouts get to have their own position.  But it doesn’t mean artists and the public have to support it.

Yay Carly Rae!

Lady Gaga’s “Little Monsters” – Madonna is a “major reason” for AIDS

Well, how hideous is this?

Lady Gaga’s fans feel that Madonna should NOT be presenting Anderson Cooper with his GLAAD Vito Russo Award. So much so that they have sent letters and started petitions saying Madonna is, in part, responsible for the AIDS epidemic.

Dear GLAAD:

It has come to the attention to Little Monsters everywhere that you are letting Madonna give an award to Anderson Cooper. Not only is this an insult to a true gay rights activist like Lady Gaga, but it insults every gay man and woman on this planet.

Madonna is one of the major reasons for AIDS. Back in the 1980’s, she encouraged gay men to have unprotected sex. While she certainly didn’t start the disease, she and her lack of morals helped it spread.

Please rethink your choice of having Madonna as a presenter. If you don’t, we Little Monsters will strike back in a way you won’t like.

Sincerely,
Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters

This is seriously HIDEOUS behavior on the part of Gaga fans. I can’t imagine that Lady Gaga would support such outrageous statements.

Just ugly.  Madonna has been at the forefront of promoting safe sex for decades.

I’ll just stop, actually.  I won’t defend anything.  The facts are facts.  And Lady Gaga’s fans are a sorry lot to throw such crap out there thanks to their “competition” they have in their heads between the two superstars.

Sad.

Sydney Mardi Gras spectator possible victim of police brutality

SameSame is reporting the story of a Sydney Mardi Gras spectator who was slammed to the ground head first while handcuffed.

The victim has apparently stated he was trying to cross the road during the parade.

While we don’t know the full story, from the video we do see about a minute before the slamming to the ground. The victim doesn’t seem to be violent and he was already in handcuffs, so it’s difficult to imagine what the officer felt was so threatening to him that he had to slam the young man head first to the cement.

Near the beginning of the video, onlookers can be heard referencing would could have been earlier violence as the voices talk about the young man already having been slammed to the ground before.

Update:

It appears the incident did not begin with the young man attempting to cross the street.  Jamie Jackson speaks to A Current Affair about the incident:

Chicago Mayor urges marriage equality supporters to contact their state reps

In the home stretch for marriage equality in Illinois, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is reaching out to his supporters to turn up the heat on lawmakers in Springfield.

From the Sun-Times:

“The clock is ticking. The House is poised to vote… in the coming days. And I know from talking with several of my friends in Springfield that some members of the House still haven’t decided which way they’ll vote,” Emanuel wrote in a personalized email to supporters Monday.

“If we’re going to pass this bill, it’s crucial that members of the House hear from marriage supporters every single day until the freedom to marry becomes law in Illinois.” [snip]

“It’s time for the laws of our state to reflect the values of our people. It’s time for Illinois to take the lead,” the mayor wrote.

“Real change happens when citizens stand strong, tell their stories and urge their lawmakers to do what’s right….What happens in the next week is up to you. Let’s do what it takes to bring home a victory for the thousands of Illinois families who are counting on us right now.”

There are reports that supporters are still looking for the votes needed to pass the bill in the House.
