Minnesota: “Concerned Citizen” Mike Frey explains anal sex & AIDS

From the ongoing debate about marriage equality today in the Minnesota House.

So, let me get this straight, Mike:

1. Sodomy is sexual conduct via either the mouth or the anus.
2. Sex by these means causes AIDS.
3. But ONLY gay men have sex by mouth or anus?
4. Keeping gay men from getting married will stop anal and oral sex between men?
5. Don’t men and women have oral sex with each other?
6. Don’t men and women have anal sex with each other?
7. What does all this mean in terms of civil rights granted by a civil marriage license to tax paying US citizens?

Lord….

Colorado: state House passes Civil Unions Act 39-26

Just tweeted by the openly gay Speaker of the Colorado House of Representatives, Mark Ferrandino!

Republican leaders in the House have spent years blocking the progress of the bill.

And now it’s on its way to the Governor’s desk, who has already stated he will sign the bill into law.

Happy dance!

Forward!

New Music: Richard Marx’s “Soundtrack for Self-Pleasure”

From Funny Or Die: “Romantic singer/songwriter Richard Marx puts a twist on some of his biggest hits with his new album Richard Marx’s Soundtrack for Self-Pleasure.”

I love that Richard Marx has such a great sense of humor. He handles this bit perfectly.

(no pun intended…)

The day Michael Pollack met Billy Joel

Michael Pollack breaks down how this happened:

“So I decided I was gonna go see Billy Joel right when we found out he was coming, and as a childhood idol of mine, right away I knew what I wanted to do when we went there. My roommate and I decided that we would try and find a way to get a question to be asked, and see if we could get on stage. And the day came, I put together a question, and I was raising my hand, and my friends to the right of me kept pointing to me, and finally after a few questions he picked on me and I hesitantly said how “New York State of Mind” was my favorite song, and how I had performed it with his saxophonist Richie Cannata in the past and wondered if I could go up and play it with him. And then he thought for a little — he took a second — and then he just said “Okay.” Which wasn’t quite convincing, but it was good enough. I walked up, we spoke about the arrangement for about 15 seconds — he just went through what he wanted me to play — and then from there, it was just … foggy. It’s hard to remember. I just started playing. I had practiced it a little bit thinking maybe I’d get the chance to go up … I kind of lost myself playing. Then afterward he said to me … he said that I was great, where are you from … and I said, “I’m a Long Islander just like you.” He was like, “Cool.” Then I walked off, and that was it … It was probably the greatest moment of my life, up to date.”

Colorado: state House gives initial approval to Civil Union Act

The Denver Post is reporting that SB-11, the Colorado Civil Union Act, is basically a done deal as the state House today gave initial approval to the bill.

House Speaker Mark Ferrandino ferociously defended the right of gay couples to form civil unions, arguing during a lengthy debate Monday that Republicans’ attempts to amend his bill amounted to promoting discrimination.

“I don’t ask to put your relationships up to a vote of the people,” he said.

The House gave initial approval to Senate Bill 11 and will take a formal, recorded vote Tuesday on the measure, which already has passed the Senate. Democrats control the House 37-28, so the outcome is not in doubt.

At least two Republicans support the measure: Cheri Gerou of Evergreen and Carole Murray of Castle Rock.

“What this bill is about is personal freedom and individual liberties,” Gerou said. “This is a good conservative bill.”

Gov. John Hickenlooper has already stated he plans to sign the bill should it reach his desk. The law would go into effect May 1.
