Atlanta Falcons Asante Samuel wonders why gays “flaunt” their sexualtiy

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel told FOX Sports Radio that he doesn’t understand why gays have to “flaunt” their sexuality when asked about NBA center Jason Collins.

Said Samuel:

“Straight people are not announcing they’re straight, so why does everybody have to announce their sexuality or whatever? You know, what they prefer…So that’s just how I see it. That’s my opinion on things. All respect you know, I have nothing but respect for the people whoever decisions they make and whatever, but you know, you don’t have to show it and flaunt it like that. You know what I’m saying, we have kids out here, too.”

I’m not sure what the “we have kids out here too” comment means, but it comes across as a judgement of some kind in this context.

Samuel addressed the comments again on ESPN:

“I don’t think it’s something we have to express and let be known of what my sexuality preference is – just stick to sports….I don’t want to teach my kids those things. I teach my kids God. You know, how God lives his life.”

Kind of an awkward interview, no?

I’m not sure what Samuel classifies as “flaunting.” Anytime straight folks talk about their girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband without a second thought, they are telling people what team they play for. If you have pictures of your gf/bf/wife/husband, you are showing the world your happy heterosexual life.

Would Samuel consider holding hands in public “flaunting?” Would he advise straight folks to not hold hands in public?

Delaware: Final Senate vote for marriage equality next Tuesday

After being approved by a Senate committee this week, Delaware’s marriage equality bill goes before the full Senate on Tuesday.

The Washington Blade reports that seven Senators are in the definite “no” column, and nine Senators in the “yes” column, leaving five votes up in the air:

State Sen. Catherine Cloutier (R-Heatherbrooke) remains undecided. State Sens. Bruce Ennis (D-Smyrna,) Bethany Hall-Long (D-Middletown,) Robert Marshall (D-Wilmington) and Robert Venables (D-Laurel) did not return the Blade’s requests for comment. Hall-Long and Marshall voted for the civil unions bill that Gov. Jack Markell signed into law in 2011, while Ennis and Venables opposed it.

So that’s 9 for, 7 against, and 5 undecided.

If you live in Delaware, please pick up the phone and start calling. Let’s make Delaware state number 11.

Video: Reese Witherspoon to cop – “Do you know my name?”

TMZ has posted the dashcam video of Reese Witherspoon’s now famous arrest during a traffic stop last month.

Reese got in the officer’s face and annoyed him to the point that he arrested her for disorderly conduct. Here are some of Reese’s quotes during the incident:

Reese: “Do you know my name sir?”
Officer: “Don’t need to know.”
Reese “You don’t NEED to know my name?”
Officer: “Not quite yet.”
Reese: “YOU’RE ABOUT TO FIND OUT WHO I AM!”

Reese: “I have done nothing against the law.”
Officer: “Yes you did, you didn’t obey my orders.”
Reese: “I HAVE TO OBEY YOUR ORDERS??”

Reese: “I’m now being arrested and handcuffed??”

Reese: “I’m an American citizen … I’m allowed to stand on American ground.”

Reese: “You better not arrest me.”

Reese: “I’m being anti-American?”
Officer: “Yes, please sit down.”
Reese: “Wow!”

Reese: “You’re harassing me as an American citizen”

And the best line — “I’m obstructing your justice?”

Reese Witherspoon eventually issued an apology:

“I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”

Out pro soccer player Robbie Rogers training with LA Galaxy

Former U.S. National Team midfielder Robbie Rogers trained with the Galaxy on April 29.

This was his first professional training session since revealing that he was gay 2 months earlier. Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena as well as Landon Donovan and Mike Magee discuss Rogers’ arrival and its significance.

The Guardian reports:

The former international, 25, was released by Leeds United in January, after a loan spell at Stevenage, and in February said he was leaving the game that had “hid his secret”. But on Tuesday he trained with the Galaxy, whose coach, Bruce Arena, said it was “open-ended” as to what his future with the club might hold. The Chicago Fire hold Rogers’ Major League Soccer rights, meaning the Galaxy would need to work out a trade in order to sign him.

“He looked a lot sharper than I thought he would today, given the fact he’s been away from the game for a while” Arena told the Galaxy’s website. “The timing I guess is good. I think our league is a progressive league. Our league is a league comprised of all different races, colours and creeds, and to be accepting of a gay athlete I don’t think is anything that’s difficult for our league.

Commercial: “I’d Date Me”

One Million Moms (actually about 55K, not a million) really, really, really hates this commercial.

From their press release:

Norelco’s new ad crosses a line of decency.

The new Norelco commercial goes beyond a close facial shave to body grooming well below the chest and back. This commercial went WAY TOO FAR! During the commercial, it shows a man trimming hair in different areas of his body. Toward the end, it shows him standing with his boxer shorts down with hair falling to the floor as he uses the hair trimmer. It is implied that he is shaving in his private area. The dialogue in the ad is equally offensive. “I’d wink at me; I’d hug me,” he says. Then he looks in the mirror, admires himself, and says, “I’d F*** me.” The F-word is bleeped out. But then they display their website, www.IdFAQme.com. This is clearly a play on the F-word.

After receiving complaints on its Facebook page, Philips Norelco replied by posting:

“To our fans: The goal of our community is to talk about guys’ shaving and grooming needs. Lately we’ve received some comments that our new TV ad doesn’t resonate with everybody. We wanted to take a moment to let you know that we’ve heard the feedback. In response we’re going to run the TV ads later in the evening beginning this weekend. In the meantime, we look forward to getting back to what we do best, talking about men’s shaving and grooming!”

The excuse Philips Norelco gave by phone was equally dismissive, saying, “We are trying to reach a certain audience and would pass along these concerns.”

Their response isn’t good enough. The ad shouldn’t run at any time. It is not only inappropriate for children; it is offensive to adults also. The company’s response to people’s concerns is in poor taste. They are basically saying that they don’t care, and they are going to run the commercial anyway. That just doesn’t cut it.

“Bachelor Party!”

Great photo of three past “Bachelors” from years past.

Ever wonder what adjusting to real life is like after being the center piece (so to speak) of “The Bachelor” franchise? From this week’s PEOPLE Magazine:

“I tell all the girls I meet: Just know, I won’t be airlifting you to the top of a glacier on our first date,” says former franchise star Bob Guiney, 42. Joined by Andrew Firestone, 37, and Jake Pavelka, 35, at a March photo shoot for PEOPLE’s special issue celebrating 25 seasons of The Bachelor, three of the show’s biggest stars hammed it up – and shared the inside dish on the roses, romances and, yes, hot tubs, that made their seasons so very special.

Jake: My biggest regret was doing the TV interview about my breakup with Vienna [Girardi].

Bob: I felt bad for you watching that special. For me, I cringe whenever I see myself in the hot tub.

Andrew: I was in a hot tub every episode. And I’m built for deep-sea diving, not hot tubs! I don’t have the Jake Pavelka abs.

Bob: Andrew and I are the dinosaurs. We were pre-six-pack.

Jake: The hardest part for me were the rose ceremonies.

Andrew: I’m so deathly allergic to roses now – they give me hives!

Jake: Now I give daisies.

Bob: I give tulips …

Andrew: Isn’t that what you give at funerals?

Bob: Congratulations. You fell in love with me. Here are your tulips!
