TV Theme Songs: ‘Eight Is Enough’

Thinking of the passing of Dick Van Patten yesterday made me a bit sentimental for this clip from the hit 1970s TV show, Eight is Enough. Grant Goodeve, who played the eldest son “David Bradford” performs, in its entirety, what would become the show’s theme song. The song is perfectly 70s, and while I didn’t really get it at the time, I now realize what a huge crush I had on Goodeve. It’s funny to realize today that I never connected the fact that in my own life had lost my mother early on, like the Bradford kids on the series. Also, much like the Bradfords, my family was always headed in different directions, too. Kind of a “rear-view mirror” moment for me. RIP Dick Van Patten.
