A federal judge has dismissed the criminal case brought by the Department of Justice against immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador last year.
Abrego Garcia was deported in March of last year to El Salvador’s CECOT mega-prison despite a 2019 court order barring his deportation to that country due to fear of persecution. The Trump administration claimed he was a member of the criminal gang MS-13, which he denies.
At the time he was deported, Abrego García was not under investigation and hadn’t been charged with any crime. It was only after he was returned to the U.S. that the DOJ filed the case against him.
The judge granted Abrego Garcia’s motion to drop the charges against him today acknowledging they were part of a vindictive effort to punish him for challenging his wrongful deportation. Continue reading “Judge Dismisses Criminal Case Against Abrego Garcia”

My favorite thing today – members of the Watertown High School Wind Symphony in Watertown, Wisconsin, were joined by school alumni and community musicians to perform the instrumental piece “A Mother of a Revolution” on Wednesday night.
World-renowned composer Omar Thomas wrote the piece in 2019 to honor LGBTQ+ activist Marsha P. Johnson and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Johnson, a Black transgender woman, became a leader of the gay rights movement.
Even though the high school students rehearsed the piece all year, the composition was pulled from the Wind Symphony’s spring concert just days before the performance after some school board members called the piece “indoctrination – because god forbid high school students learn a snippet of LGBTQ history… Continue reading “High School Musicians Perform ‘A Mother Of A Revolution’ After It Was Banned By School Board”

Colorado Democrats voted Wednesday to censure Gov. Jared Polis, a fellow Democrat, for commuting the prison sentence of former county clerk Tina Peters, who had been serving nine years in state prison after being convicted of tampering with voting systems.
Peters was convicted in 2024 of four felony and three misdemeanor charges related to a breach of voting systems after she used another person’s security badge to grant access to someone associated Trump-supporting election deniers.
