Gallup poll: President Obama leads Romney in swing states 48%-39%
President Barack Obama has expanded his lead over Mitt Romney to nine points among independents in swing states, according to a recent Gallup poll.
The president now leads the former Massachusetts governor 48 percent to 39 percent. Among the same group in February, Obama lead Romney 49 percent to 43 percent.
“The movement toward Obama is essentially due to independents’ changing preferences, because Democrats’ and Republicans’ preferences have been highly stable,” Gallup said in a release accompanying the survey results.
The poll was taken between March 20th and 26th of voters in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Overall, the president leads Romney in those states 51 percent to 42 percent.
Independents and those swing states are the place to look kids. Don’t worry about California, New York, Texas or Tennessee – we know how those will go. Watch the swing states and the independents in those states.

Marriage equality supporters send giant ‘thank you’ to Starbucks
A coalition of supporters for same-sex marriage says it will deliver a giant “thank-you” card to Starbucks headquarters in Seattle this afternoon with more than 650,000 signatures.
The group headed by SumOfUs.org, MoveOn.org and Washington United for Marriage said it started the campaign to support the company after it was attacked by an anti-same-sex marriage group, the National Organization of Marriage.
That group set up the Dump Starbucks webpage, which currently reports 25,862 “pledges.”
Let’s look at those numbers again, shall we? Supporting equality – 650,000; anti-gay hater mongers – 25,862.
Ok, now that we’ve crunched the numbers…
“We are urging customers across the globe to ‘Dump Starbucks’ because it has taken a corporate-wide position that the definition of marriage between one man and one woman should be eliminated and that same-sex marriage should become equally ‘normal’. As such, Starbucks has deeply offended at least half its US customers, and the vast majority of its international customers,” the site declaims.
CEO Howard Schultz defended the company’s stance during a company shareholder meeting in March, saying the decision was made “in our view, through the lens of humanity, and being the kind of company that embraces diversity.”
“We’ve been stunned by the passionate response to ‘Thank Starbucks’ – our most viral campaign ever,” Taren Stinebrickner-Kauffman, executive director for SumofUs.org said in a press release.
“We’ve seen in our campaigns that consumers expect corporations to do right by their workers and by their community. We hope that this overwhelming show of support for Starbucks for supporting gay rights will inspire other corporations to keep making similar public statements.”
Stephen Colbert on Rick Santorum and teaching history in California
Rick Santorum recently “read something out of California” that indicated how bad colleges there have gotten. They don’t even teach American history anymore, Santorum asserted.
“That is an outrage,” Stephen Colbert said on Tuesday. “The only thing that would be more outrageous is if this were true.”
Well, it’s not. Public colleges in California do offer degrees in American history. Well, the University of California in San Francisco doesn’t — but it happens to be a medical school. Santorum just pulled that fact out of his … heart, Colbert said.
“I certainly hope that when Santorum moves on to the California primary June 5, he does not get an intestinal blockage,” Colbert added. “Because I don’t think the doctors out there are as qualified as Santorum to pull things out of his ass.”

Prop 5 rejected by Anchorage voters
With 90 percent of precincts reporting, it appears that 58 percent of Anchorage voters rejected Proposition Five a measure that would have ensured protections for LGBT people.
According to the Anchorage Daily News, the “equal rights ordinance that was far and away the most controversial and emotional component of this spring’s election.”
Apparently, many of the people who voted no on the measure were told that they could register on the same day, which is incorrect (you need to register 30 days prior), so many of those votes could get invalidated. Stay tuned for a final vote tally.

A new “True Blood” season 5 trailer video has hit the internet, letting fans of the vampire series start speculating on what will happen. The show has been a fan favorite on HBO for several years now and is based on the series of “The Southern Vampire Mysteries” novels by Charlaine Harris.

North Carolina: 60% oppose Amendment One
Sixty percent of people in North Carolina oppose a proposed constitutional amendment which would ban gay marriage in the state, a new poll has found.
While only 38 percent of respondents to an Elon University Poll released Monday said they support gay marriage, a majority (60%) said they are opposed to Amendment One, while 32 percent said that they favor the amendment. A majority of respondents (67%) favor either marriage (38%) or civil unions (29%) for gay couples. Only 29 percent say gay couples deserve no legal recognition.
Voters will decide on the measure during North Carolina’s May 8 primary.
If approved, the amendment would bar North Carolina from recognizing the relationships of gay and lesbian couples with marriage, civil unions and possibly domestic partnerships.
