Katie Holmes is apparently done with the “Cruise” of a lifetime. The 33-year old actress filed for divorce yesterday after seven years of marriage to Tom Cruise, the Mission: Impossible and Rock of Ages star.
Well, I’m shocked I tell you – shocked.

Marriage equality to come to France
The new president of France will legalize same-sex marriage in “the next few months,” according to a statement from his office reported by Reuters.
President Francois Hollande and his Socialist party campaigned on marriage equality, and with a solid majority in Parliament it is largely up to them on the timing of changes.
The administration also plans to ensure adoption by same-sex couples is legal in France, and it will hold a series of discussions on what can be done to help transgender people specifically. Those moves will happen before the end of the year, administration officials have said, according to the Reuters report.

Mitt Romney calls his version of healthcare reform, which the Affordable Healthcare Reform Act was based on in part, NOT a tax but an “assessment.”
Somehow, between then and now, while he approved of such things then, he now finds the same ideas repugnant.
To repeat: the ideas he signed into law THEN, he now finds repugnant.
That was clear enough, yes?

Texas GOP platform: gays “tear at the fabric of society”
The just-published 2012 Party Platform for the Republican Party of Texas, which weighs in on everything from deep-water drilling to NASA to immigration and Israel is truly a sight to read.
Among the more key points is a lot of talk about marriage and family values (including a definition of marriage that certainly doesn’t include same-sex couples) and the affirmation “that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit.”
Homosexuality ― We affirm that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle, in public policy, nor should “family” be redefined to include homosexual “couples.” We believe there should be no granting of special legal entitlements or creation of special status for homosexual behavior, regardless of state of origin. Additionally, we oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction or belief in traditional values.
Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) ― We oppose this act through which the federal government would coerce religious business owners and employees to violate their own beliefs and principles by affirming what they consider to be sinful and sexually immoral behavior.
Bill introduced to provide military benefits to same-sex couples
A bill was introduced Thursday that would provide military benefits to the same-sex spouses and children of gay and lesbian members of the armed services.
Now who could argue with that?
Rep. Adam Smith, the ranking Democratic member of the the House Armed Services Committee, introduced the bill, which would require the Defense and Veterans Affairs departments to recognize the legal marriages of gay service members.
The Military Spouses Equal Treatment Act of 2012 would change the definition of “spouse” in four sections of U.S. Code.
Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, praised the proposed legislation in a statement Thursday:
“Our nation’s senior military leaders and commanders on the ground are increasingly uncomfortable with administering two classes of recognition, support, and benefits for our nation’s service members — one of straight service members, and a different for their gay and lesbian peers,” Sarvis said. “There cannot be two classes of service members, and this legislation addresses that effectively.”
The step follows the official repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” in 2011, which has caused the need for several policies to now be updated to be more inclusive of openly gay service members. Speaking at the Pentagon on Tuesday, Department of Defense general counsel Jeh Johnson said the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell” has exposed several inequalities between gay and straight service members that must be rectified.
