After a certain point it starts to look like a man in mid-life crisis buying an expensive sports car. We clearly outspend EVERY major industrialized nation. Why not a trillion? Two trillion? When is enough enough?
OR – if you really care about the deficit – I’m talking to you Tea Baggers – how about we trim some of this from the defense budget and pay down the deficit?

Pentagon: Servicemembers may wear uniforms in pride parade
The Department of Defense has given its permission to all branches of the military to wear their uniforms while marching in a San Diego gay pride parade this weekend.
In a letter sent by Rene Bardorf, deputy assistant secretary of Defense, the Pentagon officially blessed the idea. “We hereby are granting approval for service members in uniform to participate in this year’s parade,” Bardorf wrote. There are two conditions — marchers are participating in their “personal capacity” and always follow the military’s standards for appearance and behavior while in uniform. The ruling also only applies to this year’s march in San Diego.
“Today is a great day of Pride! San Diego Pride is honored to have the privilege of celebrating our country and our servicemembers with dignity and respect,” said San Diego LGBT Pride executive director Dwayne Crenshaw. “The fight for equality is not over and it is not easy, but this is a giant leap in the right direction.”
Chick-Fil-A does damage control
Lots of people are jumping on the “boycott Chick-Fil-A” bandwagon. Tossing out the “independent Owner/operators” line to try and deflect criticism is disingenuous.
Not so sure this is going to stave off the loss of customers….

“Legalize Love” movement for pro-equality President Obama
A new independent group called Legalize Love hopes to turn the 2012 election into a watershed moment for equality by reelecting President Obama.
“Together we will show voters across the country that 2012 is the time to “Legalize Love”,” they write at their website. “The presidential election is our best, most visible chance to build support for equal marriage rights in the United States. Having a president who believes in equal rights is an opportunity to change laws — and hearts — all across the nation. Let’s seize this moment. Let’s make history.”
Unaffiliated with Google’s international Legalize Love campaign, the movement today released a new video that overlays Obama’s pro-inclusion messages over ordinary citizens’ identical testimonials and urging like-minded Americans to join the fight for equality.
Ann Romney: No more tax returns
Note the condescending “you people” turn of phrase…
Interesting how she deflects to “we are so generous” from the question of why not release tax returns as both President Bushs, President Obama, etc…?
Theory seems to be he’s releasing the two years of tax returns he could “manage” knowing he was going to be running for President. He gave John McCain several years worth of returns.
Could it be that the earlier returns show he paid little to no taxes and therefore could seem “unrelatable” to the average American?
First Lady launches voter initiative
First Lady Michelle Obama announces the launch of “It Takes One”.
“It Takes One” is a new effort that asks you to inspire one more person to join you every time you take an action to move this country forward. If you’re making phone calls or knocking on doors, take a friend along. If you’re registering to vote, make sure that a family member is registered as well. If you’re attending an event, bring one neighbor along. And if you’re voting early on election day, bring one new voter with you. You could inspire five, or ten, or 100 new people before November.
As the First Lady shares:
“That one new voter you register in your precinct. That one neighbor you help get to the polls on November 6th. That could make all the difference. That one conversation you have. That one volunteer you recruit. That could be the difference between waking up on November 7th and feeling the promise of four more years or asking yourself, ‘could I have done more?'”

Las Vegas: ARTrageous Vegas – July 28th
ARTrageous Vegas is one of The Gay and Lesbian Community Center’s major annual fundraisers and a celebration of art in its many forms. For a second year, the event will take place at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on July 28 featuring local artists in a variety of mediums.
ARTrageous Vegas is an evening showcasing some of the best talent in the Las Vegas arts community.
The event will feature an exhibit highlighting works from emerging and prominent local visual artists. In addition, a smorgasbord of art — manifested in its many forms — will be located on the main stage and in multiple thematic salons: music, avant-garde fashion, improvisation, live performances, body art and more.
Gastronomy will also be celebrated this year at ARTrageous Vegas through a partnership with Wicked Spoon, The Cosmopolitan’s bustling culinary hotspot. Elevating buffet dining to an art form, Wicked Spoon joins top quality, familiar staples with imaginative and seasonal dishes, sure to satisfy every craving and appetite for culinary exploration.
