The NCAA announced the penalties for Penn State’s role in the Jerry Sandusky scandal today:
Penn State was socked with a four-year postseason ban, the loss of 40 scholarships over four years and a $60 million fine stemming from its coverup in the sake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal. In addition, all victories from 1998-2011 have been vacated, a huge blow to the coaching legacy of Joe Paterno, the winningest football coach in college football history. NCAA President Mark Emmert announced the penalties, saying that “one of the dangers in our love of sports is that sports themselves can become too big to fail, too big to challenge.”
The $60M fine will be used to create a fund for the victims of sexual abuse.

This weekend our great nation suffered an enormous tragedy.
At a midnight show of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora, CO, a young man, James Holmes, opened fire on the unsuspecting moviegoers.
James started by releasing a tear gas cannister into the audience. The smoked produced from the cannister momentarily lead the audience to believe it was part of the show’s hype. Then the gunshots began, ending with a dozen or more dead and upwards of 50 people wounded.

The Muppets have dumped Chick-Fil-A. The Jim Henson Company has posted a statement to their Facebook page:
The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over fifty years and we have notified Chick-Fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-Fil-A to GLAAD.
