Health officials say coronavirus booster shots will begin being available the week of September 20 after analysis of recent data indicates some decrease in efficacy over several months. From the Washington Post:
The administration said it is developing plans to begin offering the booster shots after reviewing a wide array of data. The plan, which applies only to the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, calls for Americans to get a booster shot eight months after receiving their second doses.
The officials said they expect that a booster shot will be needed for people who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, but they are still reviewing data and will announce plans at a later date.
Officials said the decision was driven by data showing a decline over time in the vaccines’ ability to protect against less serious disease; evidence that boosters work and that more protection may be needed against the dominant delta variant; and a desire to stave off any potential decrease in the shots’ effectiveness against severe illness.
US Health Officials have said that people who received PFIZER or MODERNA vaccinations will need boosters beginning eight months after their second dose.
There has been no announcement made on those who received the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Pending FDA approval and the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendation, we’re prepared to offer booster shots to fully vaccinated adults beginning the week of Sep. 20 and starting 8 months after an individual’s second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.
