I originally shared this incredibly touching viral video in 2018. The clip was shared by Luis Vazquez, who took his young son (who is on the autism spectrum) to see his favorite band, Coldplay. As the iconic British band played one of the boy’s most-loved songs, “Fix You,” he immediately starts to well-up. So overcome with emotion, he stops dancing and puts his head in his hands. The father is so in the moment with his son, letting the young boy experience the music as it comes. When the dad kisses his son on the cheek at the 1:12 second mark blows me over the edge.
Autism is part of my family. I know and feel how it affects not only an individual, but the surrounding family. When authentic joy arrives, it’s overwhelming for everyone involved. Plus, Coldplay is my favorite band. Why or how I respond to their music, I don’t know, I just do. Some things really are just visceral. I can watch this over and over again. The power of music.
