WICKED Dances It Out In Honor Of Donna McKechnie

The cast of WICKED on Broadway honored their “Madame Morrible” – Tony Award winner and Broadway legend Donna McKechnie – with a special dance video  tribute. The WICKED cast members did their home work and created a video performance utilizing three of McKechnie’s most iconic dances from across her illustrious career: a section of “Music and the Mirror” from A Chorus Line, “Turkey Lurkey Time” from Promises, Promises, and “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This” from Sweet Charity. The performance took place on the stage of the Gershwin Theatre, with the production’s current “Wizard,” Brad Oscar, introducing the clip by referencing the opening of A Chorus Line announcing: “Once again, facing away from the Oz Head. 5,6,7,8!” I love that the “Turkey Lurkey Time” segment features not only dancers from the show but the Production Stage Manager, the Asst Stage Manager, and the Makeup Supervisor. Currently the 4th longest-running show in Broadway history, WICKED celebrated its 20th Anniversary on Broadway last October. McKechnie joined the cast as “Madame Morrible” this past Spring on March 5 to much fanfare. Having worked with Donna on several occasions, I can tell you – the love theater artists have for her is real and deep. A true triple-threat, she demands more of herself than anyone else, and is oh-so-generous on stage with her fellow actors. The cast also posted a TikTok video showing the dance tribute to Donna for the very first time. You can see Donna is truly touched by the video.
