Update: Trump Shooter Was 20-Year-Old Registered Republican

The FBI has identified the shooter who fired several shots at a Donald Trump campaign rally on Saturday as Thomas Matthew Crooks,  a 20-year-old registered Republican, from Bethel Park, PA.

From CNN:

Authorities used the gun to help determine the shooter’s identity, as he did not have identification on him, according to law enforcement sources.

Authorities say he fired multiple shots from a building rooftop just outside the rally venue before he was killed by Secret Service agents.

Law enforcement sources report Crooks had explosive material inside his car and residence.

CNN contacted Crooks’ father, Matthew Crooks, late Saturday night, who said he was trying to figure out “what the hell is going on” but would “wait until I talk to law enforcement” before speaking about his son. Reuters reports that, according to state voter records, Crooks was a registered Republican. The upcoming Nov. 5 election would have been the first time Crooks had been old enough to vote in a presidential race. Shortly after being whisked away from the rally, Secret Service issued a statement saying Trump was “safe” and doing “fine.” He apparently received a superficial wound to the top of his right ear either from a bullet grazing it or some have reported a bullet hit his teleprompter and the glass struck him by the ear.
