White House Site Removes Tributes To Matthew Shepard + Nex Benedict

The Trump team has removed a pair of tributes on WhiteHouse.gov dedicated to Nex Benedict and Matthew Shepard, both of whom died following horrific acts of anti-LGBTQ+ violence.

From Yahoo News:

Archived through The Wayback Machine, the brief message from former President Joe Biden said that he and his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, were “heartbroken by the recent loss” of the trans teenager of Choctaw descent, who died one day after being attacked by three students in an Oklahoma high school bathroom.

Also gone from the WhiteHouse.org page is an October 2023 statement recognizing the 25th anniversary of Shepard’s death.

In the message, Biden honored the legacy of Shepard, who died after being tied to a fence post and beaten by two men outside of Laramie, Wyoming in October 1998. His killers, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson, each of whom received consecutive life sentences for the murder.

Also – searches for “LGBTQ+” and “transgender” on WhiteHouse.gov comes up with nothing.
